Need D1S bulb in 6000K

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my D1S bulb, in 6000K. I just would like to get some vendor references as to where to pick up a pair of D1Ss.

TIA

Been using DDM Tuning for years for all of my HID lighting needs. They source DIRECTLY from China (which is where most manufactures get them) and they pass the savings directly to you. They have a great selection of colors. Give them a look. Just google DDM Tuning.

I have a set of Phillips Ultinon 6000k D1S bulbs from highperformancebulbs. Far from cheap, but worth every penny!

I recommend those also. Not only because they are are up to manufacturers standards but because the cheap ones tend to blow ballast. We've had a quite a few customers in that situation already.

Absolutely positively do not cheap out on your D1S bulbs - the ballasts will cost you an arm and a leg.

You guys mention ballast being blown. Do you think the cause could be due to either the use of a non branded bulb or using a 55w d1s instead of 35w? I'm leaning more towards the latter.

Note: I would only ever use 35w, but maybe those with failed ballast were using 55w.

I'm using the CBIs now. First off, these aren't actually blue despite saying 'Cool Blue'. They start pretty blue but is more of a pure white after they warm up.

The light intensity from these is amazing. They just light everything up and the cutoff is so clean and crisp. The far left and far right were much more lit up. I personally am able to see much more detail at night now. I don't think I'll ever need to try any other bulbs on the market.

Additional note, they're not 5500k, the box reads 5000k. If you want some shots of them, I can get them for you.

A pair of D1S bulbs should never cost $22. If it does, I'd steer clear.

Idk... I've been using ebay d1s/d2s bulbs for the past 5 years and never had a single problem. I've also had philip ultinons and they are brighter for the color but not $100 brighter. On my last car, the $10 d2s bulbs lasted 3 years and still going strong. The ~$15 D1s bulbs I have now lasted for 9 months now and still shows no sign of weakness.

Low beams don't mean much to me so I don't need perfect colored low beams as long as it doesn't look yellow like the OEM ones.

Call me cheap but eBay products are not always junk, or else why would sellers have such high feedback ratings?

Kisho,

Thanks for the feedback! If it is not too much trouble, could you post some pix of the Phillips CBI on you car?

TIA

MTEC D1S bulbs definitely will not blow your OEM ballast out.

Here you go fellas, took a few in random places on my way home from work. Do excuse the horrible pic quality and my awful picture taking skills.

So I'm back.....After my initial post about getting new D1S for my E90, I just swapped the OEM back in. Now the OEM has burnt out on the passenger side, which is the same side as before.

Before replacing it with another set of D1S, do you guys think there is something wrong with my D1S bulbs burning out within a year or so, and always being on the passenger side?

I've had this car for 7 years, only had to change the bulb twice (including this time). Was on the aftermarket D1S for about 5 years or so, and back to the OEM for about 1 year or so. I also have HID fogs (Mtech HIDs).

Also, what are some of the sites that I can get quality D1S bulbs again? Sorry, no ebay.....maybe Amazon.

TIA

I've had the Osram CBIs, and while they were great bulbs, they weren't (to me) worth 3-4X the cost of regular bulbs. I found in my e39, that upgrading the projector and lenses made a much bigger impact than the CBI bulbs. Also replaced the ballasts in that car with Morimoto 5Fives, and the lighting was great.

In the e93, I just picked up $30 ebay D1S 6000K bulbs, and they're great. Nice, white light, no errors, no warnings, etc. Next time, I'm going to get 5000K bulbs, as I find 6K a tiny bit too blue for my liking.
