E90 (NO i-Drive) seats and mirror key memory?
I just returned from the dealer to upgrade software on my 2006 330i (no i-drive). They say they performed:
SIB 12-19-05 and SIB 12-09-05 They told me the reprogramming was completed, however I can't call seat and mirror memory position from the key, and the service advisor tells me this feature is not available. The invoice reads "Cannot perform seat memory, car does not have option. Only newer cars from September of 05 has this option" Those of you who had the software upgraded on a similar car, does the seat and mirror memory work from the remote? Both my wife and I drive this car, so it is an important feature to have, and our older 2002 330i had it. We've been told for months that the new software will fix it, now we are told it does not. Anybody with a 2006 330i (no i-drive) has the mirror and seat mirrors memory settings working from the remote? Thanks in advance. Paul |

I recently (Nov) purchased a 330 with no I-Drive.
The mirrors, radio, heat, all respond to the key, but not the seat position. I was told this is a software issue. I've not tried to see if an update is available yet. |

Hi Paul, I just had Sirius installed and the dealer updated my vehicle with the same two updates. My car was built on 4-18-05 so it's pre-Sep. I don't understand how the key is supposed to work for the seats and mirrors. I always use the memory button if someone moves them.
If someone can explain how it works on post-Sep. cars I'll let you know.

I have not got my car yet, but it has been built in Nov 2005 on it s way now. It sounds an important issue to me, as I have no idrive and based on the spec., my car should have driver side memory settings.
I also dont understand why memory settings for seats and mirrors have to do with 'key'? What key ? I thought these settings are done on some sort of memory buttons right?

I have August production car. Mirrors and radio can be set, but not seats (you have to press memory button).

I've got a pre-september 325i with no idrive. Before I got the CIP 19 update I had to use the memory buttons to return the seat and mirrors to the original position.
Since I've gotten the update, the seats and mirrors automatically return to their position when i unlock the car. |

To clarify, I programed evrything using one key, locking and unlocking the door. Then I changed to the second key fob, unlocking the door with it and did the changes. The seat memory are different for both key fob. But the radio stations are not: the second programming destroys the first one. And the seat does not position itself at all. My car is an August production.

Well, if it can't do it then you will just have to use the buttons on the seat to recall your position

What we are talking about is the ability for the seats to automatically return to their positions based on the key used to unlock the car. This is a feature that was advertised by BMW and as such, we expect it to work. |

Do you have to pay for the software upgrade? I want mine upgraded too. I like to have the Drive-away Door Lock and Day-time Running Light features. I don't care about the seat/radio setting memory on the remote since I'm the only one driving the car.

theclay, One thing I have noticed is that the seats don't move unless you lock the car then unlock it with the other key. |

The updates I received are #12-09-05 and #12-19-05. Not really a big deal but you think it would be the same across the board.

Paul, I have an Aug. production 330i without iDrive. The feature you're alluding to is covered under Personal Profile. Each key will memorize its setting for mirrors, seat position, climate control and audio. As long as you have the latest updates, your dealer will be able to turn each setting on or off. The mirrors and driver seat will automatically move to it's last position when you unlock the door with remote. Or you can get dealer to set it to move when you open driver door. This only applies to vehicles with powered seats which I'm assuming you have. Hope this helps. |

Well, it doesn't work for me. I had the dealer set it on, but it does not work. Not even the radio stations. The seat memories do work though. I'll ask them again one of these days. Maybe they screwed it up and never did set it on

Many thanks to 06graphite for confirming that after the software update,
driver seat and mirrors should return to their position when the car is unlocked. Also thanks To Jcoo)85 for pointing me to the BMW links detailing the updates and thanks to you all for helping me to solve this annoyance. To 06graphite: can you please let me know the name and details of the BMW dealer that performed your CIP 19 update? This could be very helpful, as my BMW invoice said “ 4760 Cannot perform seat memory, car does not have option, only newer cars from September of 05 has this option” . As your car is pre-September like mine, I could prove to my BMW dealer that my car should be serviced and repaired properly like yours. I also noticed (thanks to the To Jcoo)85 links) that the embossing of the assigned 440 code number was not performed, as it should after the software update. It's almost night and I'm still waiting for the BMW local dealer to return my call. There last word was that "it can't be done", so if they do not call by tomorrow I will call BMW headquarters to request a solution. Such a great car as BMW is not well represetnted when customers have to contact each other to find basic answers that the dealers do not know and seems do not care to find out. I'll keep you posted on any progress. Thanks again, Paul |

Paul,
Here's a link to a thread from a few months ago. I posted my invoice in it, it's post 85 I think... You might want to take the time to read the whole thread. It's pretty informative. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...9&page=4&pp=22 Let me know if I can be of more assistance. Who is your dealer? |

Paul - Your dealer should be able to turn this on for you. The difference between pre-Sept cars with the software update and post-Sept cars is that in the latter you can program these options yourself from the OBC stalk. In the pre-Sept cars you have to have the dealer turn on/off the features you want.
Tell them to turn on the key fob seat/mirror memory settings. I also had them turn on my auto-locking feature. If they give you any crap that it can't be done - ask them to call BMWUSA while you're there with them. Tell them you want to hear it because you know it's a lie. Agoura Hills... I was there about a year ago on business... very pretty area. I'm jealous that you get to drive your E90 through the canyon!!
