E9X Steering Wheel Retrofit Options E90/E91/E92/E93 etc.
Hey guys,
I'd like to put together an informational thread on Steering Wheel RETROFITS on the E90/1/2/3. I would appreciate people posting their own experiences or others they may have seen already done. I've had a short-lived E92 M3 owner experience and never got to doing a steering wheel upgrade, however I am a steering wheel junkie. Since its your first point of connection to the vehicle, I think steering wheels are really important. I've had a bunch of cars, some with great stock steering wheels and others with terrible ones. I've done swaps, I've had wheels customized. For example, I put an E46 M3 steering wheel on a (Z3) M Coupe, double-stage on a single-stage, also retrofitted an E46 M3 SMG steering onto an auto E46 325Xi with a simple harness. Simple swap like E46 M3 steering wheel on E53 X5. BMWs are getting more sophisticated but that doesn't mean we can't upgrade our steering wheels. I bought a E90 LCI 328i X-Drive for a commuter and the stock steering wheel just won't cut it. Considering getting an X1 for the wifey so this info could also come in handy. I will add a few things I may have seen on this forum. Please add! BTW my understanding is steering wheels can be swapped across these platforms E90/1/2/3 (3er), E82/3/7/8 (1er), and E84 (X1) |

My E90 comes with non M steering wheel & it's simply boring. I had an X1 loaner one time with sport steering wheel & really liked it very much. So here is what I have done.

That came out great, very nice upgrade from the before. I like that LCI X1 wheel, it looks very elegant for a standard wheel. I wonder if adding DCT paddles is just as straightforward on LCIs. |

I have a e92 with sports package and cold weather package so my steering wheel is heated.. Could I switch to an m-sport wheel and just do without the heated option?

I think it can be done by disabling the heated option in the code.

Hi.
Just came across an idea to fit heated steering wheel from x3 f25 in my e90 LCI. Wondering if there was any problems with connectors and extra work to fit it other than changing the steering wheel. Would appreciate any information |

as far as I remember, I don't think anyone except for the Chinese in China fitted F series steering wheel into E series, as the whole assembly is quite different.

I have sport steering wheel in my E92. It's heated. If I swap it for an M sport or M3 wheel, would the heated option still work? Or is that not possible ?

There are, however, a few heated M sport steering wheels. I recently found one in car-parts. It was really rare tho

If the replacement wheel does not have heating component, you can just leave the plug disconnected. (No coding needed). |
