Newsflash: I've filled up my tank three times now!

Isn't everyone so proud of me that I actually got some miles on my car?
Unfortunately when I ran out of gas and pulled into the station they only had 89 octane and so I had to put 5 gallons of that in to hold me over. It's not going to kill my car right?

nope, anti-knock sensors are in bimmers since 1994, if i'm not mistaken. the only thing it hurts is a bit of performance (~20hp max).

You have 1400 posts, and only 3 tanks of gas?! You probably have more posts than miles! .

Nope you should be fine. The car's computer automatically retards timing so that you dont get any knocking.

LOL, its much better that way for her... Less miles equals less rock chips and all of the other blimeshes that come with miles! It also means she gets to take pictures of a brand new car for longer!

I prefer real driving to virtual driving, but diff'rent stokes for diff'rent folks. I wouldn't be surprised if she has spent more time taking pictures of her car than driving it.

She does have some great photos on her site. I'm using one now for wallpaper (on my PC... ). Keep up the good work!

Ok, so the BIG question IS....
How did you manage to run out of gas? Dont the fuel reserve chimes reminders drive you crazy?

So, you could feel a BIG difference between fuel grades. There you go. I will stick to my 100RON fuel and try not to do your trick and run out of petrol.

Why so few miles on the clock?

kt157, I think we got the car at almost the same time....I already got 1060 miles... 600 the first week, 400 the second. Although I got to enjoy the ride, but I kind of feel bad too....don't want my car to become an old car so soon......

Knocking: When a knocking sound from the engine because of pre-ignition. This happens when fuel ignites itself in the compression stroke due to high heat energy. This ignition should happen at a later timing (When the spark plug ignites) When the fuel ignites itself at the wrong timing, this produce a knocking sound.

Nowadays, cars are equipped with sensors so it's not really a problem. What you lose with lower octane fuel (the cause of knocking) is fuel consumption and performance.

I've never heard the fuel chime, or seen the "petrol light" (in my diesel car nochal)

But I don't want to try it now, with the fuel shortages and all in this bannana republic I live in. Who can believe it...

To fill people in: South Africa is changing to "cleaner fuels 2006" which means only low sulphur diesel, ultra low sulphur diesel, unleaded 93 and 95, and LRP 93...some of the refineries have shut down temporarily to change over...but no one stockpiled before or planned it ...so some stations are running out of fuel...meaning you might need to try 3 or 4 before you find...

I'll be about half by friday, and then I'll fill up. Just incase it takes me some time to find :-)
