Purchasing A New 2006 M3
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum and would like to first express my delight in knowledge of the group. I look forward to the day when I am able to to contribute as such. With that being said I am in the process of purchasing a new M3. I have a few questions about some of the options available and want to know from previous and current 3 Series if they are worth the purchase. (By the way this is my first BMW and I am located in North Georgia) 1) Premium Package 2) Cold Weather Package 3) BMW On Board Navigation 4) Rear Sunshade Thanks all, Jeffrey |

They are all worth it, if you've got the dough.
FYI, the 2006 M3 is an e46 model (as it has been since 2001) and you may find better luck at www.e46fanatics.com as this site is dedicated to the e90 --mostly. |

Ooops! Sorry everyone.
I will definitely be in touch with the group as we get closer to the release of the E92. In teh meantime I will take a serious look at the E90 platform as oppose to the E46. Thanks again all, Jeffrey |

Hey - welcome! May be the wrong forum for that model, but you're welcome here anyway.

It is a crime for anyone here to recommend or not to recommend a E46 M3. If there were a car, there always has a buyer (eventually) . BMW is not going to dump their M3 E46 into the ditch just because there is a new E90 M3 coming.
Few years back, I paid the bottom price for a fully loaded brand new 2001 E320 W210 9 months before the launch of a new generation E-Class. 9 months later, a fully loaded new generation E320 W211 priced 45-50% more than the price of my E320 W210. I sold my E320 after 3 years and only lost 40% even my car was an old generation. BMW and MB have many models which have very good resale value, E-Class, M3 E46 are examples. And, most important, I enjoyed my E320 so much and of course it has been gradually out of fashion because more new generation E class is a popular car all over the places. But there won't be that many super cars like M3 E90 around the streets anyway regardless as these super cars are always rare. There are many personal factors to decide a top end new car at the end of a generation model. First it is the price , second it is how long you will keep your car, third is the history of cars you have owned. If your budget is marginal for a E46 M3 , then do you want to pay 70K for the new V8 M3? The price gap between M3 E46 and M3 E90 will be even bigger as many options of the E46 will become standards; and the many luxury options on the E90 M3 will make the new M3 price higher There is nothing to stop one to sell the E46 M3 and get a E90 M3 a few years later when one sees he/she is more financial capable. There might be even better overall stability and even new engine variants. Some people I know, will buy preowned E46 at time the E46 M3 owners are about to dump their cars for upgrade to the E90. However, I assume you want to get a new E46 M3 now. Having said all these, personally, I will wait for the V8 M3 and I would prefer to pay more and wait for the 420hp M3. This is because I already have owned a 360+hp MB and want to upgrade to bigger engine power and also try to own a famous M3 for a change. And I also believe the new M3 V8 will be cheaper than the future generation C63 AMG. And from now, I only pay money on cars if they are Benz, BMW and Porsche.

I bet you can get a REALLY great deal on an M3 as the months pass and we get closer to the release of the e90 M3. I've thought about it myself actually. By next spring, I can't imagine they're going to be selling a lot of e46 M3s as everyone will know about the upcoming e90.
I'm thinking about it myself. Do I want to get the upcoming 335 or the e46 M3? It's certainly something to consider. |

To All,
First thank you all very much for the insight and honest opinions. Your replies have made both rationale and financial sense with regards to my new purchase. I will go and talk to my sales rep about the new E90 platform and wait for the my new forum to bring me up to speed to the release of the E92. I guess I was just itching for a M series! That's not so bad is it? (smile) Thanks again, Jeffrey New E90 member |

I don't care what people say, but I'd rather get the new M3 whose design will last for 6-7 years more. Remember BMW redesign the body every 6-7 years.

5 years is typical for manufacturers from a certain other country that shall remain nameless BMW hasn't had a 5 year product in a long long time if ever 6 or 7 is the norm as stated above |
