Why does BMW think I am a M candidate?

Remember last time I got a weird tire track in the mail, and turns out it was made from a real M6 driving through paint etc. Today, I got some box from BMW and I eagerly opened it up, only to find it's some sort of appointment book pushing the M6 4 door coupe.

Didn't I just get done saying that $52,375 is way too much for a 4 cyl. F31 328 wagon? I can't even imagine how much a M6 would cost, yet they keep sending me stuff!

You bet! 335i was purchased new, it had zero issues years 5,6,7 under extended 7/100 Gold, until 2 days before expiration, both VANOS solenoids replaced. I'm pretty sure I could have done it myself (I've done crank and cam POS on other cars, although it's tight on the N54). I had them go over my wastegates and they said sorry, no play/slop at all in yours, maybe the 8/82 will cover them, maybe not. I've always believed that if you need a trade in order to get your next new car, you cannot afford it. When you think about it, if your neighbors have 3, 4, 5 cars in a household, do you really think they have loans on all 5? No way, cash and carry.

But back to my original point, I find 52k to be a lot for a 4 cyl. car. If you told me, hey, I know you missed your chance back in '09, but we reserved a brand-new E92 M3 with 3 miles on it for you, 2k10, 6-man, but you will have to pay us 60k in cash right now, it has a 4/50 warranty starting from when you pick it up. I will be there in 2 days with a cashier's check. But a brand new M6 4 door coupe? I will probably never be in the market for that, way too much $$$$!

agreed. Mail a letter back to the dealership and say if I purchase this m6, will you feed my family and pay my mortgage?

That's why you let the first buyer take the price hit. Then you buy it used/CPO'd for half the price.

Well, $52K+ for a four cylinder wagon doesn't say a thing about what you see as a reasonable price for 8 cylinder (or however many there are) pseudo-coupe. LOL.

Did you finance or lease a car? If so, they know you potentially have the means to buy such a car because they know quite a bit about your financial position. Pay cash next time (or finance via someone other than BMWNA).

I get similar stuff from my dealer, but not from BMWNA. But then the store owner and I belong to the same club and we are friends. And I've bought five cars from him since 2007 and paid cash for each of them. So he knows (roughly) what I can afford to spend, regardless of my unwillingness to spend as much as he'd like me to. LOL.

It's just marketing. The 6ers arguably are BMW's best looking cars. If they think you might be moved to buy one and they know you plausibly can afford to, they will at least ask you to come look at one and see if what happens.

All the best.

If you can pay $60K cash for a car now, you can finance one for $111K. The dealer doesn't want you to pay cash anyway, so that's not going to be an issue for him. If you don't feel economically comfortable doing so now, in a few years, if you are like most folks, you will. Only reasons for any marketer to feel differently would be that your age indicates you would be past the point of increasing wages and/or past the point of giving a tinker's dam about fancy cars.

All the best.

E60 M5 for me. The designs during Bangle's reign were controversial and I'm not a fan of any of them except for this.
