--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, I just bought my IS350 is crystal white with black int. I have 2500 miles on it so i am past the break in. I was out driving around with 2 of my friend which one of them owns a brank new e90 330i in stick and my friends 04 G35 coupe also 6 speed. we decided to go to an abandond industrial road which is like almost 5 lanes deep. We line up next to each other. 3 Honks later we all take off. The BMW got us both i was right on the E90 rear door panel. and the G35 was aprox 1/4 car length back. Well Im not going to even mention the G35 after this point since me and the e90 both pulled on him slightly. But hell at about 45mph i was starting to catch up to the bmw i was right on his front wheel well... we both then hit 60mph and about dead even, im starting to slightly pull at about 70 mph. Then little do i know his power in 3rd gear just kicked in. Hes starting to catch up. By the time we were done at 105 mph. i was on his rear bumper. I said hell i got a bad luanch. So the G35 stayed out of this one since we were curious. 1 time 2 times, same out come. WTF? si we switched cars he drove the IS and i drove the bmw. well same thing, another 2 times. So then i said you werent trying. My friend in the G35 said, here ill drive the BMW u drive ur IS, so we did. and Another 3 times we go. and SAME OUT come AGAIN!.. well my friends 330i has 1900 miles on it. and i must say. UNDER rated they are, and if u catch someone on a bad day who knows how to drive well.. like i did, i ate the dust.. Ow well.. he still drives a BMW lol...

Naw, I believe him. Last time I saw a Bugatti Veyron on this twisty mountain road, I chased after him. I was right on his tail until we hit 160, by that time I had to slow down cuz the turns was just getting too much and he just started to pull away.

this really intrigues me...someone on the other forum makes a very good point: 0-60 is one thing and how it accelerates after 60mph is another. Fact is that they test drove a Corvette and a 911 and they both have the same 1/4 mile time. The Corvette has a V8, 400hp, and 400lbs of torque compared to 911's 355hp and 295 lb torque. something is fishy...

Well it's no secret that some cars performs better during a certain power band then the other. A car might be faster than the other during 0-60 acceleration and be slower from 60-100... etc. This is very common. Usually some car performs better at higher speed while the other at lower speed.

What's odd about the event in question is that, the BMW jumps out to a lead, and the IS catches up, THEN the 3 series pulls away again. This sounds more like driver error, but since he stated that they swapped drivers several times to eliminate the possibility of driver error, this can be counted out. The other possibility might be that the IS is simply more difficult to drive fast. An automatic with paddle shifter might not be the easiest car to drive fast. It might take more practice to cope out the full 300hp.

The initial jump made by the 3 series is pretty predictable. DTC turned off with a stick should have no problem taking a good lead from a stand still. If I remember correctly, you can't turn off the traction control on the IS (unless you got the cheap code?) The IS starts to catch up after a little, then perhaps these guys don't know where is the optimal shift point for the automatic, so they're dropping out of their powerband and thus allowing the 330 to pull away once more.

2 cars with such a large power difference should not yield the result they got. I bet if the IS just stick to automatic and floor it and never take their feet off the gas, the result will be different. I do believe our 330i is dramatically under-rated, but unless Lexus are pumping out production cars that's less potent then what the magazines have been testing, the Lexus should have straight line without trouble.

What's stated in that post isn't possible. I made the same statement on that board too.

Can you find out the differences of the tires. 300+ hp cars could do bad launch easily if there ain't enough rear traction to take that up that accelerating power.
