Do you curb loaners when parking

as if they were your own? I do. Technically I should have pulled head-in with the pass side facing the curb, but since there was nobody around I curbed the driver's side and walked. Luckily when I got back, there was still nobody parked next to me.

A few years ago I got a brand-new E92 328i x-drive, I mean it had 30 something miles on it. It must have been sitting because when I lifted the hood, it was blanketed with leaves. I cleaned them all out....this car had that TSB where if you run too many accessories, they begin to shut-off (defrost, lights, wipers, heated steering wheel). I could not keep the heated wheel on....

Yes, I once detailed the inside of a loaner because it had a funky odor ...

My dealer always gives me free loaners... even on an oil change, whatever...

and they always give me a "nicer" or newer car... Ive gotten many new LCI e90s and e92s, and the last 2 times they gave me a brand new 528i and than an F30...

I treat all these cars like they were my own - with the exception is I have put 87 octane in... I put 93 in my car... other than that, I treat them with respect.

Karma is a bitch.

Yeah, we get royally hosed up here in Canuckistan. Most (if not all now) dealers in the GTA offer a "subsidised" loaner. Even if your car is in for warranty repairs. You have the choice of a BMW loaner 30something a day, or a non BMW loaner 20something a day. Total rip off.

well, I haven't always put in 87... But I did knowingly do it at least twice... the other times I put in 91 octane. I still put 93 in my car.

I just specifcally remembering pulling up to the gas station right before I droppped the one loaner off, and I was just like screw it, Im putting in 87, I can't say I did to just to save $2.00...

At the end of the day it really doesnt matter, the cars all still run on 87, perhaps more "rough" but is fine really, I dont think a few times using 87 would be a huge issues either way.

+1. The loaners I get are never spotless either, which I kinda expect from a luxury brand stealership. Strange how they never inspect the interior before handing me the keys.

The new 328's are like the 335, REQUIRE 89 octane, so that's not respect...

I always treat the loaners like my own, the dealership is doing me a favor by letting me drive one. $2.00 extra for 93 isn't going to put me in the red, and if I have it for an extended period Ill run it thru the carwash. Cause in the back of my mind I know at the end of its loaner life it will be somebody's car and id like to know that I did my best to keep it nice for them. I know most ppl trash them and turn them in tho lol

Yep, BMW dealers give out loaners like candy. Once a homeless guy came into the reception area, and asked if somebody could just give him a ride to the soup kitchen, and one SA said to take a loaner, there was a black 328i x-drive right outside. The SA next to him said don't you need his insurance info, and he winked and handed the guy the fob....

Well if you need me to specify, i did NOT put 87 in the F30 i had the one time, nor the 528, so relax.

And, even if you put 87 in a 335 or a newer turbo 328, 87 octane will not blow the motor up or anything. You might get some engine knocking.

Relax, 87 octane isnt going to do long term damage if used once and awhile.

89 is the minimum. You cannot use 87 in a 335, nor a new 328 or 320. That's a requirement, not a recommendation.

I guess back to the original question, I think, or at least the way it comes across, is no, you do not treat the loaner the way you would treat your own car. I'm sure you are not alone.

I don't think it has to do with $2, it has to do with the vehicle not being your own, which is what I asked as the OP. Me, if I'm given a brand new 328 F31, I seriously don't want to be the one who allows it to be dinged, just because it's not my own. I suppose if the poster said I run 87 in my own 335i, to save $2, then to answer the original question, yes, he treats the loaner as he does his own.
