Suspension Noise

PSS9s

I have a bunch of creaking in the front when Im turning into a parking space or turning into a drive way from the front suspension. Kinda sucks.

Also, at times as Im driving, sharp (but not all that sharp) impacts cause a clucking sound in the rear suspension. It makes things sound kinda cheap, you know?

I read this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...coilover+noise but its hard to know which part of it applies to my problem if any.

How low is your car?

Front Creak: Sounds like the springs are shifting/turning on the spring pirtch.

Rear Clunk: Make sure everything is tightened. If this continues, try either raising the height or stiffening the shocks.

Any coilover can offer this noise.

The car is not that low, maybe H&R sport in the front and a bit higher in the rear.

About the spring pirch, why are the springs turning, is that normal? I will call my installer today and ask if my kit came with the bearing washer that was mentioned in the thread I quoted.

Based on your description this is only problem I could gather.

The E90 uses a MacPherson type strut in front and the springs will naturally bind (turn). Therefore, the sound is not abnormal. Depending on whether the sound derrives from the bottom or top of the springs, a washer, which will allow a smooth turn, can resolve the noise.

I wont be changing wheels anytime soon, so I have to find another solution. I softened up the suspension a bit and that seems to have helped the clunk in the rear.

Its the fronts and those rotating springs it seems. Why do they rotate? And did my Eibachs and H&Rs on my last car rotate as well?

Get some lube on your springs, where they get in contact with other parts of the suspension/etc.

Make sure nothing is loose as well.

There is a washer that sits next to the top strut support bearing and it can only be used in one direction but can be put in upside down. This will cause the problem you are talking about.

UPDATE:
The installer could find nothing wrong. All washers were in their place as they should be. So we went for a ride for him to hear the noises, and he was a bit perplexed.

He then decided to tighten up all the bolts at each connection. So he diligently worked on each bolt. After he was done, we took another ride, and to my surprise, all creaks, noises, etc disappeared. Its quiet as can be now.

So, check your bolts guys, I guess they need to be super tight. He also mentioned to make sure that the height adjustment rings are super tight as well, if not he said they can flex and make creaking noises off of each other too.

So Im much happier now to say the least. The car even seems to ride smoother, but Im sure thats in my head
