Roof Tile
I am gutted, one of my roof tiles has fell off and landed on by brand new 320d M Sport. Not a happy boy. The house insurance won't do anything because the wind was not above 47 mph. Obviously I can claim on my car insurance but there goes my excess and next years premium will no doubt take a big hit.
The damage might not look massive but it is on the edge and looks expensive to me. I'll find out next week when it goers in for repair. |

That seems awfully harsh. What would the insurance co. have done if the roof tile had fallen off and killed someone?

A similar thing happened to my Mk6 GTI. I got 'The Dentman' Martin Leach (he's the best in the country without any doubt) to straighten my roof and then gave the car to the bodyshop for repainting. Knocked hundreds of ££££ off the repair bill. You see, with bodyshops, they do not remove the dent perfectly and use an excess of filler.

no point having insurance if you aren't going to claim on it when something happens.
I think you will find the 47mph rule ensures there has been an insurable incident i.e. bad weather as opposed to just poor maintenance. |

I would put it through the car insurance, after all that is what its for.
You should also try some of those dent specialists. I have witnessed them do unbelievable work on cars without the need for spraying etc. Awful thing to have happened to any car never mind a brand new one. |

This is why the wife's car gets parked in front of the house. The last one took a slate to one of the doors.
Bummer that house insurance won't cover it.

Thanks everyone, it really is a sickener but hey nobody got hurt and the insurance will sort it out. I've got BMW insurance and they've been pretty swift in getting it sorted, it's booked into the body shop on Monday and will probably take 2/3 days. That said they haven't actually seen the damage yet.
The crappy curtosy car might be a challenge, I've only just got used to the great 8 speed auto gearbox. What's the betting that I stall it at the first junction |

detailed weather information at the nearest weather station. Why don't you see if you can get the information for the appropriate day from the Met Office to check what they have said ?

Name and shame the home insurance comany. I can appreciate rules to ensure accident rather than lack of maintenance as has been said but how many get up and inspect their roof each year.
Hope you get the car sorted ok. |

Im a contractor for several insurance companies, and i honestly think the rules and decision to whether your actually insured is so wishy washy its unbelievable. I sometimes think it depends on if the loss adjuster is in a good mood or not on that day.

If they applied car insurance to your house on the other hand a tile falling off would be a write off. They'll have to demolish your house and build you a new one

Shame, sorry to hear that. We had a near escape earlier in the year when 10+ tiles came off. Our repair guy suggested screwing our ridge tiles down which he did across all ridges. Doesn't help your car claim but might be worth considering.

I know how you feel mate, Gutted..I had a neighbour bounce a Bud bottle off mine (my E90), then denied it when I went to the door. I just called the police at that point. I am not surprised at the insurance company to be honest...anything to get out of it.
Hope it gets sorted prompt mate
