Residual heat REST.
How great is the residual heat feature, first cold day here in the south, had to go in some place for a while and decided to try it out. Came back out to the car after about 20 min and the interior was still warm. Think I will be using this quite a bit this winter.

I have read on here a while back that function was no longer available after 07, I might be wrong. Someone else might be able to correct this statement if it's not correct. Last edited by v6turbo; 11-12-2013 at 03:05 PM.. |

Ah, never quite understood how to use this feature...
But know, I think i'll use this a lot! I thought is was something you used when the car was running. Never would have guessed to use it like OP stated. Thanks!!!

I dont think I ever used this feature here ins San Diego, but just make sure you all have a good healthy battery since this will take a bit of load to your battery.

I have no idea why it can't be a combined ALL/REST button? I mean leave it set to "ALL" while the car is running so you can change the temp controls... but the second you shut off the motor... you can use it as the "REST" feature.
Seems like all anyone has to do is hit the fan sped button once the motor is shut off to get the "equivalent" of a REST feature? For what it's worth... my '08 has the REST button. |

It will shut off if the battery doesn't have enough amps to keep the fan running. So there no worries about it running the battery down to the point that the car won't start.

In my case REST feature stopped working along with the rear defrost when my battery was low. Until I replaced, both features ware able to work again. |

I live in California so I don't necessarily need it as much as eastern states but when I do use it now it's great coming to a warm cabin, and I love how the rear defroster saves it setting after you turn off the car and come back.

In my '09xi...use it often in the winter. I believe it will only run for 15 or 20 minutes (I can't remember which) max. It's just the fans blowing in the heat from the engine, so it doesn't tax your battery much anyhow.
Thank you to whoever invented heated steering wheels, as well. : )

New owner and I just read about this feature in the manual yesterday. I love the idea. I will have to give it a try!
Hopefully it is not too taxing on the battery. |
