Question about sport auto trans

I know the sport auto transmission option has a different programming than the regular auto and shifts faster. But WHEN exactly is that faster programming applied? In all modes, or just in M/S mode (lever moved to the left)... Or maybe in Sport driving mode? The manual is not very clear on this sport auto option...

Per my experience in my car versus loaners, the faster shifts come from sport mode and the lever pushed to the left. The shifts are noticeably faster than the regular auto.
