Has anyone been sailing yet?

Has anyone with an MY2014 car noticed "sail mode" actually kick-in yet?

I've done a fair few motorway miles with Eco-Pro on and I can't actually discern anything happening. I'm keeping an eye on the rev counter but it seems to hover around 1200rpm with my foot off the accelerator , exactly the same as in Comfort mode.

You'll hear this audible alert when Sail-Mode is active and in operation:

Use EcoPro most of the time, done 3.5k miles with lots of motorway and never had anything tell me I'm sailing. Not sure it works tbh?

It probably is working, the fact you can't detect it is exactly how it should be....

Likewise, unless I have an open road and want to have some fun, I have mine in Eco Pro most of the time and I can't say I've every noticed it but then, I would expect that to be the case - it should be transparent.

I may be completely wrong about this, but when I was looking into Sail Mode it seems it is disabled for the UK market. I'm sure I read that somewhere and as the latest brochures don't seem to say anything about it I just assumed this must be true.

Can't see me sailing much though even if it was enabled

Possibly it works after you switch the engine off now and again to reboot, Just like some other things with the 3 series. Idrive & Dab freezing. PITA.

I certainly ain't got sail mode but I assumed that was just the 335d that didn't have it.

I used "ECO-PRO" once total wast of time, saved nothing, use a light right foot= same result.
As for sailing , sold my boat but it had a large outboard so I suppose it would not count.

I noticed it clearly when test driving a 435i Xdrive. Only happened in Eco Pro mode. When you lift off it feels like you have dipped the clutch, so no engine braking effect - you are coasting.

I've noticed that when coasting in Eco pro with foot off the gas sometimes the blue pedal warning light comes on and there's a blue arrow on the Eco pro display going all the way to the left. Surely this is the sail mode in operation?

Can't work out why else the gas pedal warning light would illuminate when my foot isn't on the gas pedal.

I can definitely feel the car being held back downhill even in eco pro. Is it safe to shift to N and roll downhill with a 335d ? Someone mentioned it could damage the gearbox due to no oil flow when in neutral

The off the gas icon appears when you are approaching a junction or lower speed limit. It's designed to give you a heads up and save fuel. That's how I understand it anyway.

If the dash icon is a blue foot and pedal then I have seen it. Dual carriageway downhill. Eco pro mode foot off accelerator.
Thought I had a problem at first. lol.

Not driven mine enough to really say, but I have it on our 911. In non-sport mode, the revs drop to idle revs, it's very weird, but it appears to work. Didn't notice the BMW doing the same today in eco-pro..

I've heard switching from D to N to D on the move isn't good for the transmission, but can't remember why. You can do it, but don't is the advice...

OK, thanks. I wonder if sailing is enabled in other countries if it could be enabled via coding for UK models (provided there are no mechanical differences).
