6MT in 228i vs M235

Anyone know if the 6MT in the 228 is the same as the M235? In the official reveal, the M235 calls out a short throw shifter, but nothing is listed on the 228i. People who are familiar with BMW: is this common practice, or does a short throw shifter come as an option on lesser models?

Probably not.

If I remember, the M235i has the same gearbox from the 1M (at least, the F20 M135i does if I remember correctly)

F20 125i on real-oem:
Rmfd-6 speed gearbox GS6-17BG - TAU0 1 23007633990

F20 M135i
Rmfd-6 speed gearbox GS6-45BZ - THY8 1 23007617492

E82 1M
The BMW E82 M Coupe uses the GS6-45BZ manual gearbox referred to for short as the K gearbox.

That would be a shame if it's true. I was hoping Msport might make it standard. Having a lesser transmission would be a real disappointment.

Well that is one of the reasons why the M235i costs 10 grand more than a base 128i.

Also, the engine has more power and torque so it needs the upgraded transmission.

But fear not, you can probably get the BMW performance short shift kit for it and it's not that expensive

Has anyone found out about this? I have driven a manual 228 but not M235i and the shifter seemed a little far back to me in the 228 so 2nd and 4th gears took some wrist bending.

I have a chance to get the manual M235i but can't drive it first.

Thanks in advance.

Real OEM lists the same transmissions as the F3x.
M235 - ZF GS6-45BZ THY8
228i - ZF GS6-17BG TAU0

Sorry, see that was already posted. As for M Sport, it's purely cosmetic, they're not going to change transmissions just for a thicker steering wheel and some different trim.

M Sport is not purely cosmetic. Better suspension, bigger tires, increased limiter, etc...

All of those are also on the Sport Line. The only difference between Sport and M Sport are the steering wheel, body kit and window trim.
