Worn out area next to gas pedal. Warranty?

Hello,

I noticed the other day that there is this worn out area next to the gas pedal. (see pictures) Apparently my foot grinds against the walls, over time, i got this ugly looking "hole" in the wall. I have 23k miles on the car.

Some questions::help:
Does anyone else have this issue?
Anyone know if this this covered under warranty?
My car is a lease, is this acceptable "wear damage" ?

Thanks !

Doubtful. It will be considered normal wear and tear. Not all drivers rub their foot against the carpet, so not all will wear there. I have seen some cars that have a vinyl pad in that spot.

It wouldn't hurt to ask, but don't be mad if you're told no.

yup, be nice, maybe the dealer will help you out. I don't think it's an obvious warranty claim. The dealer may get a little pushback from BMW.

Keep us posted!

Yours is the first post I've seen like this, so I doubt it's that common, unless nobody else is talking about it, embarrassed by their big clown feet.

But I have to say, I'm going to check out my carpet and pay attention to how I put my feet on the pedal now. I wonder if I'm rubbing down there, too. I can't believe that wore straight through like that.

This isn't terribly uncommon if you drive with your foot all the way to the right. A lot of performance car manufacturers actually put a plate there so it doesn't rub through. I assume this is because sportier cars have the pedals closer but I really can't say. See attached pic of an F430 with such a plate.

never seen this problem. You work or live in a farm by any chance? so much grass/hay. Like what others have mentioned, check with the dealer. And also check the way you drive. This shows a problem with the placement of your foot!

Good point, not sure where all the grass/hay came from! I work at Dell actually, no grass in my cube that I know of

Ahh wait...I play lots of outdoor soccer this is probably where thats from!

It's worn already. Just change your habit on your next car. Enjoy yourself.

Now if this were dash/door handle/steering wheel pealing i'd have a different opinion on things but it's hardly noticeable down there .

I notice a lot of times when I'm driving that my foot rubs against the carpet and have to make a mental reminder not to rub my foot there. The tunnel is wide and there should be a pad there to prevent wear.

All kidding aside, I could see that happening when wearing boots. If the OP wears work boots or say boots for winter activities, it could rub there.

On my other car, which has a clutch, after 10 years on the road, the carpet is worn out on the dead pedal, and has a hole like in the OP's pics.

Just a wear and tear problem, won't be covered under warranty unfortunately.

My foot rubs against there as well. I only have 4K miles and no obvious wear yet. Hmmmm, maybe I should put some vinyl there or something....

I wore a hole in exactly the same place on my Volvo but at 150,000 miles. I replaced the carpet, which was a few hundred bucks.

I have Size 13s, but I always wear sneakers when I drive.

It sounds like BMW uses crappy carpet material. I'd try for a warranty replacement but wouldn't be surprised if they reject the claim.

The front carpet itself looks like $277.88.
