D-head on a bike

Thanks to some prick on a bike I have my first dent in my 2013 335i.

I guess I'm not supposed to stop at a stop sign and turn right when he's speeding along in the same direction and wants to go straight without stopping.

The dickhead punched the rear passenger door and rode on....the worst part about it is that at this point in my life, the consequence of me retaliating in the manner I was contemplating is far worse than a ding in my passenger door....

That said, F that guy.

I feel your pain. Driving in NYC for me is always an adventure with bikers thinking they own the roads and the delivery guys on the motorized bikes are even worse.

If you have a local paintless dent repair center I would recommend checking that out.

This is the place I used in the past.

I wonder how useful running front and rear dash cams would be for tracking down d-bags like this. Would you even be taken seriously filling out a police report with such evidence? The Blackvue DR550 would be money well spent if this is the case, also could potentially help track down somebody keying your car if they happen to live/work around you.

I thought about calling the police but I figured it'd be no use. You'd almost need a cop to witness it for anything to happen....

Oh I wanted to...but luckily I thought of the potential fallout from that. I like being able to drive a BMW...as mad as I was, I don't want to do anything that could prevent me being able to do that.

Plus, in a conversation that goes:
"Why did you get arrested?"
"A guy punched my car so I hit him with my car"...I'd come out looking like the idiot.

But man it would have felt good

I'm sorry to hear. This has been my experience with bikers...no regard for the law.

In California, bikers are supposed to ride single file, yet frequently ride two/three wide.

I was in a parking lot a couple of months ago. I stopped at a four way. Just as I am driving forward, three bikers turn left in front of me without stopping at the stop sign. I honked, followed by one of them berating me as if I was at fault (you know, for following traffic rules).

Wow, he punched it with his fist? What a kocksucker.

There is a two lane road I drive periodically through a reservoir that large groups of bicycles purposely hog the whole lane on. Since passing is verboten and dangerous, you are forced to drive behind the SOBs. I have so wanted to plow into them....

Citation needed.

There is no prohibition against multiple vehicles sharing a lane on a state level in CA. This is why lane splitting is legal for motorcycles (lane sharing).

Same should apply for bicycles. Though, as with any other vehicle, if you are holding up 5 or more vehicles, you are required to pull over and let faster traffic pass.

As for OP, I wonder what the odds are that he was using a turn signal. Scofflaw or not, most people don't want to be made into roadkill.

I'll accept your citation. The handbooks states:

Should ride single file on a busy or narrow street.

That being said, riders are required to stop at stop signs.

I signaled. I abide by the law when I drive. Particularly in the city

Bingo.

Pretty sure he's a student, we have a university in town and it wasn't too far from campus.

I bet when he has his own car he'll have a different perspective.

Gonna go see the painless dent repair guy tomorrow….looks like this one will be findable through that technique based on the before/after pics I've seen online.

Wow, sure is a lot of pent-up frustration with bikers here. I own a 2012 328i and I am an avid cyclist, there is room for both on the roads. Everyone must understand that there is frustration on both ends of this though. There is no end to the number of drivers that are over-aggressive with bikers (I have been run off the road at no fault of my own), and unfortunately they sometimes cause deaths. That does not give bikers an excuse to damage property though. Personally I try to avoid roads during high-traffic periods, it is just not worth the risk of getting hurt; as I also am very deferential to bikers riding; you would be surprised (maybe not) at how your decision making changes after 40 or 50 miles of hard riding - imagine your decision making after a 10-15 mile run or swim. Will admit I don't live in an area where there is a lot of conflict between the two. I lived in Europe for 3 years and there is ZERO problem between bikers and drivers there, the law there is heavily swayed to the bikers.

Wow that happened to me a couple of years ago. Turning right on a dark main street when a cyclist wearing all black, no reflectors just appears out of nowhere going straight through the stop sign. I slam on the brakes halfway through the intersection, so does he and before I could even begin to speak he's on my quarter panel getting ready to punch it. He decided against it stating if your car wasn't new blah blah blah....

I honestly don't know what I would have done but with my temper I suspect that bike may have been wrapped around him.

Good for you for not overreacting.

In hindsight, that would have at least been an option.

But unfortunately, in the heat of the moment that didn't come to mind...and the few ideas that did come to mind were quickly overruled by my understanding of the consequences if I followed through on any of them.

This one's gonna piss me off for awhile though....
