Carbon black has blue metal flakes in it (from what I understand). In any case, the paint looks dark blue in the sun, and black at night. As someone posted in another thread "its like getting two paint colors"

OP it depends also on how much you want to keep the paint up as well. BMW paints are notorious for being soft and although the clear coat is tough, the paints scratch very easily.
I own two black M BMWs. A Jerez black E90 and black sapphire metallic X5M. Both are a bitch to maintain. Luckily the M3 I have owned since its birth from factory and have been able to monitor the paint. A pre owned one is a different story and not all car care and respect the paint or the car for that matter. All the metallic options are great choices into opinion. Can't go wrong with either. Jet black will get a bit boring I would think |

I ordered black sapphire. I think you would want to stick with either that or carbon black as previous poster stated! Jet black is kind of boring! Lol

Drive up to a dealership and checkout the color yourself. If they don't have an actual F15 in these colors, ask for another model that does have these colors to get a sense of what you like. If worst comes to worst, ask them for a pallet so that you can see it in the sun. Don't just judge the color from a computer screen.
Like the previous poster eluded, blacks are difficult the maintain. You should know what you're getting yourself into: both ascetically and maintenance wise. Z. |

Too Much Black?

However, I want a change from my current Space Grey and I don't like the Imperial Blue, thinking of having Black Sapphire with the 20" Star-spoke style 491 - Black alloy wheels. Is this to over the top? Interior will be Ivory White/Black Dakota Leather. |

I like black cars, I have had them for a while now, tough to keep clean, but I just love the look when clean.
I am leasing so I wasn't sure if the step up to Saphire was worth the $550 for not, was it ok to "settle" for the jet black. Thanks for the insight everyone PS Carbon doesn't sound my style, but I can see the draw for sure |

Go into the dealer and take a look at the blacks. They will have them available in all three options. We wouldn't want to influence you in one direction or another. I am guessing that the jet black is an option because some people actually like it better. The sapphire just has flecks of metallic sparkle in it, that when clean seems to shine a little more. The sapphire has more depth in my opinion.

Thanks Bug,
I asked the dealer and he actually said the split is 50/50 between those who order the jet black vs the sahpire. I wonder if that has more to do with the extra cost vs who actually prefers one over the other. Seems the metallic hides the swirls and scratches better than the basic black I appreciate the insight |

I would go with metallic all the way. I had a Black Sapphire bmw and it was really nice. Showed nice shade of purples with certain lighting.
One issue to consider was when I was getting custom body parts, the paint matching was kind of a huge pain in the ass. I am sure a solid black/white would have no issues.

My past jet black 540 msport showed every little scratch and was a bitch to keep remotely clean. Will never get a JB again
My past carbon black 550 msport looked great when clean, showed less scratches but always looked better even if it was a bit dirty but looked better than jet lack when clean. My black sapphire e70's which I had/have has blue, green, red flake in the paint. I put that in between CB and JB.
