Good information to know def!! I drive my car on a daily basis so the storing issue regarding the absorption of water, im not to worried about. What I'am worried about is the E85 content of where I'm getting my E85 from on a daily basis... I didnt know the laws were that flexible given E85 is suppose to be 85% ethanol but it can go down to as low as E50....NOT TO COOL when all of a sudden one day its E85 (85% ethanol) and the next day or fill up, its E50....I live in Texas so I honestly dont know what category I would fall under but I sure hope not the E70ish category...Then its def going to be an inconvenience...

yah I have the flex fuel kit, so concentrations don't matter to me, but I am sure you can buy a composition sensor on it's own so you can get accurate readings of Ethanol content.

If your that worried about the eth % just pick up a 10$ test kit. Much much cheaper than a sensor

Anyone know of any guys running full e85 on their e92's and have issues of corrosion on any part of their fuel delivery system? Have heard horror stories on rust developing on jap performance cars GTR included. I managed to run full e85 on mine without any issues whatsoever and have access to consistent pure e77 distilled into drums but the thought of rust and broken lines due to the nature of this fuel keeps me wondering from time to time.

+1. A simple E85 fuel tester costs $10-$20.

You pour water up to a certain line, and then E85 to a certain line. A visible line is created after about 10 minutes which corresponds with E85 percentage marked on the test tube.

This is especially beneficial if you only go to one gas station in your area, and if your location is one that tends to have different blends other than summer.

Yes...MUCH cheaper, but I get instant accurate readings from my dash in my car Maybe not fully instant as it takes a couple minutes for the new fuel to get upstream to the sensor, but I am not mixing fuel in a bottle, waiting 10 minutes then adjusting my tune. I pay for convenience and integrated solutions.

There are always cheaper solutions:

But I am willing to pay for integrated and set it and forget solutions

Fair enough, The vishnu sensor will be going on my car in the very near future too But for those that don't want to spend the money its good to know there is a 10$ test kit.

I'm a little confused. On the e85 pumps in Colorado, its says "warning, the ethanol content can be as low as E70". The article says as low as E50???

True but tuning for e70+ and running e50 is not a good idea.

Around the SF Bay Area we're supposed to get 85% all year around, but sometimes they throw in a little E75 just to keep us on our toes. I suspect it's a supply issue; they run out of E85 once in a while so they ship in a tank of lower grade to fill the orders.

I don't know if there's up to date charts, but you can view the blends by state and region below for given months.

Summer Blend: Class 1 (Minimum 79% ethanol)
Spring/Fall Blend: Class 2 (Minimum 74% ethanol)
Winter Blend: Class 3 (Minimum 70% ethanol)

For the rust part, it makes a very good argument to add the Duralube to the tank fairly consistantly. I'm betting/hoping that eliminates the water and therefore the rust.
for the Ethanol content... wow, Hawaii's got it going on! fortunately I'm in Florida and we are listed as #2.

After reading the aritcle above and a few other discussions about E85, my brain hurts and I may be just as confused as I was before I decided to see what it was all about. It seems like there is a ton of variables to take into consideration if I decide to run an E85 blend. The power gains are very tempting but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. I'm also not sure if I am willing to take the risk of running it in my daily driver and only means of transportation. Does anyone know of a comprehensive thread discussing E85 that can get me up to speed? I searched earlier and couldn't come up with much that was more than just personal experience and tune suggestions. I'm looking for something more credible and comprehensive before I pull the trigger on E85. And thanks to the OP for the link to the above article...the info was great...the self induced headache, not so much!

Just buy Quick Fuel's E85 tester, test the E85 before filling up, and you should be good to go. I run E50 on my daily driver. Use an E85 calculator to calculate the exact mixture you want.
