Worst Winter in Decades

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/436...d-for-November

I'm sure it's scare mongering but even still, I'm glad I have x-drive

Now for some winter wheels/tyres.

The cars clearance is bigger factor I think. X or RWD is not leading if the roads are with to much snow.

I saw that and my bloody lease company won't allow winter tyres. Even though I said I would store them and pay to have them swapped over. It sucks. Unless I pay for them all myself, errrrr no. I do a lot of late night driving over the Costwolds.
I have snow socks for my current car but when my 320 d msport arrives on 29th they won't fit as the msport has fatter rears, so I'll need to get new socks I guess.

Don't the Express say that every year? I think it's a competition with the Mail. See who says it first.

Won't allow them or won't pay for them? I wouldn't expect the lease company to pay for them.

I've been impressed with snow socks though. Saw them used a couple of times last year and they worked very well.

Just thinking about this again. If it's the worse winter in decades then that makes it worse than 2010/2011. Technically that's... SNOWMAGEDDON!!!

We're notoriously cack handed over here when it comes to bad weather.

Stuff and nonsense - the Express have a great track record at mistaking the weather events. Normally they are doom merchants.

Get a really believable paper like the Sunday Sport where Elvis came back to earth as a fish finger.

Seriously noone can tell the weather with any precision more tha 3 days in advance,

If it snows bad my way the car will be left on the drive, in one piece.
Its not that I cant/wont drive in the snow, its just all the other people around who cant drive in it or are in inexperienced and I don't want to risk some idiot crashing into mine.

I'm with you on this one... I had a A3 Quattro and yeah it was ok in the snow to go somewhere, but you try and stop in the snow. The ABS just basically cuts all braking and your left in a uncontrollable situation.

I think people think X Drive turns the car into a Land Rover Defender... It doesn't regardless of tyres, wheels etc.

Sure you'll pick up speed, but you ain't stopping!

As said above, it's just a competition with The Mail

Ever since everyone on TV has been telling us that global warming is an a unquestionable and undeniable truth that dooms us all to be roasted alive unless we learn to enjoy a lifestyle that will deliver the same standard of living as our caveman ancestors endured, I have assumed we are actually heading for a mini ice age. I have therefore prepared accordingly and have spent a small fortune insulating our solid walled house and ensuring energy efficiency to the point were my total energy costs p.a. are a few hundred quid in credit thanks to the daft Labour governement bung for having PV panels on the roof. I have also put my modest savings into energy companies and coal miners.

Every year that goes by makes me think that my little joke to wind up green friends might be a lot closer to the truth than even I expected.

I realise that my new car is not really consistent with the view of life and that I should of got a Land Rover Defender (or a real Land Rover as us old folks call them!) but we are retired and live in the London suburbs and I assumed the commuters would kindly clear the roads for me.

Worst winter in decades my arse. Tony Blair spent years promising us global warming whilst taking all that fuel tax, so he could save some polar bears.

And as you know his Tonyness was right about everything.

I shall therefore be fitting cut slicks to my car this winter.
