@!$% Floormats!!

I have the official BMW floor mats that came with my E90 when I bought it. The mats themselves are nice but the method BMW chose to keep them on the floor does not seem to work so well. Over the last year or two the Velcro stickers slowly removed themselves and now no longer do their job.

I'm looking for any recommendations as to how to re-attach the Velcro stickers to the underside of the mat. Are there any glues I should use or is there a better way??

Any sort of contact cement (apply to both pieces, let set, then stick together) should work fine.

I've never had a problem with the velcro coming off the mats; do you remove them a lot?

Yours has velcro? I don't think mine does -- it's constantly sliding forward, up under the pedals. I'll have to take a look -- thanks for the heads up!

Anyway, I was thinking some of that carpet tape like they sell at home depot... it's yellow, and it's supposed to keep rugs from slipping. I think I have some in the garage -- that will be plan B.

My mats always slip forward inpeding on my pedal work.
I haven't taken the time to look at it in detail.

I've only purposely removed the mats a couple times a year for vacuuming under them.

Contact cement like rubber cement?

BMW mats always come with hold-downs of some kind. The carpeted mats have velcro-loop circles on the back that mate with plastic velcro-hook disks that screw into the carpet. The all-weather mats have molded holes that fit over hooks that screw into the carpet. Other threads have mentioned that dealers don't always install the hold-downs when throwing mats in the car, but if you order them aftermarket they should be included with instructions.

Well, "rubber cement" that you get from the office store is pretty wimpy stuff but might work. If you go to a craft/fabric store and ask for "contact cement" they should have a few different varieties that are pretty wicked. The last one I had (Elmers something) came in a blue tube with an orange top, took 24 hours to cure, and stuck like crazy. Just make sure the container lists "fabric" or "leather" as one of the uses (they usually do) -- it basically means the glue's flexible when it cures.

I got the all weather and like mentioned before it comes with plastic carpet screws that have a hook at the top. The mats never move, they are great!

Stop moonwalking on your floormats. I don't have this problem. Get the all-weather floormats then, they are much heavier.

It's become a habit when getting into my e46...pulling the drivers side mat back because it pushed up the dead pedal and underneath the pedals.

My mats were on backorder when I picked up my car, so they arrived at my house by UPS about two weeks later. They included two plastic discs with plastic screws on one side to anchor the driver's side mat. The instructions said that the discs should screw down into mounting holes in my footwells. I can't find any holes to screw them into, as the whole area is carpeted. Do these just screw down into the carpet? Seems like a stupid way to damage the interior. Thoughts?

I never got the discs that hold the mat in place. The back of the mat has the circlular patch of "loop" but I'm missing the "hook" disc it mates to. Since its been 5 months, I'm guessing the dealer isn't going to care....

Mine came with the discs with screw. I just didn't want to drill the holes on the brand new car. I guess no one does.

call the dealer and tell them your car did not come with them.
They might give them to you free.
That's what I did and it was about a year after I got the car.

You don't "drill" holes, you just thread the screws into the carpet. The holes disappear when you take out the screws and brush the carpet a bit; they don't pierce/break anything, they just thread between the backing fibers.

At least, that's the idea -- they *might* damage the carpet, but I haven't seen it happen yet.

Now, I, on the other hand, used a sharpie to mark where the holes in my all-weather mats were so I have wee black dots where the screws go. I thought dots would be less of an issue than screwing and un-screwing the hooks five times until I get them to line up properly, and so far I haven't regretted it.

Best solution I have seen is that people have taken the yellow foam-like stuff from home depot or lowe's and gotten a couple of feet of it. Take your mats and lay them face up on the foam and cut out to match the shape of the carpets. Then adhere with superglue or hot glue(careful to not make the glue glubby, make sure its smooth) to the bottom of the floormatt. It will never move again!

BTW: the foam stuff is the stuff at homedepot they use to make house carpets not move around.
