Hi. The other day, I was pulling away at about 5 mph and was reaching to shut off the ASS and accidentally hit the Start/Stop button and the car came to a screeching halt. If something like that were to happen at a high speed, would the car still shut off like it did at a low speed or would the car still coast?

Second random question is along that line- if in automatic mode and you mistakenly think you were in manual mode, pushing the stick forward 2 notches- would the computer prevent the transmission from going into reverse?

N (neutral). I've done it.

At low speed, I think 5mph maximum, position P can still be engaged, so that explains the halt. At higher speed, pressing the Start/Stop button would have no effect unless you hold it for 3 seconds or press it rapidly 3 times, then the engine will shut down. BMW UK would not comment whether position P would be engaged. I'm sure it wouldn't, but I ain't trying it...

2 - Yes, you'll just get the iDrive shouting at you a bit. Foot must be on the brake and unlock button depressed.
