what tires do you use for winter?
I am thinking to use non RFT 17 inches on my 335 e90 sp. Tirerack has "performance winter". Is it enough for Boston? or should I get "studless ice and snow"?

Had Blizzak LM25 on the previous car and now have Dunlop Wintersport 3D on the 335xi, both of them are performance winter tires, and never had any trouble with them in the winter.

Agreed. I somewhat regretting getting my Dunlop Wintersport M3s. The traction is insane in the winter, but it's overkill. I could probably get by on all-seasons.

I drove with my current vehicle same tires during one of the storms the past season. I am talking right in the middle of it even went on the highway. Did fine and had some fun in a parking lot.

I ordered the Dunlop Wintersport M3s.. My area is always the last in town to be plowed in storms (i.e., the next day, if I'm lucky) so traction is a priority. I'm also hoping for an easy winter!

I just bought 17" LM-25's for winter from TireRack mounted on rims.
I figured if I'm getting tires for winter, they mine as well be winter tires (rather than all-seasons). I would guess that stock tires on the xi's are pretty good all year round. The stock tires on the coupe - no good in winter. The stock tires on the non-xi sedans - not sure? (probably somewhere in between). There's also the question of RFT vs. non-RFT, but that's been beaten to death in other places. |

I had to patch one of my tires not to long ago. Other than that has been good. I mean yea its great to know you have it and I am not knocking you. But unless you got them for a good price the extra amount for them seems not needed to me.

But I still would be fine with non run-flats. Just I would pray not to get a flat during the winter.

Winter virgin with a RWD car, been driving AWD forever. Do you guys get your winter tires with different rims? If so, which one would work for an e90 335i with sports pkg?
The e90 335i with sports package has the same high performance summer tires as the coupe, so I am thinking about getting a set of winter tires. Either that or I have to drive the s60R, but I am finding myself reluctant to climb into the Volvo these days... |

It is a fair bit of difference cost-wise between buying RFT vs buying non-RFT, especially when you factor in the TPMS valves and sensors (I would assume if you go non-RFT you don't have any use for the TPMS sensors)
The RFT tires were about $60 more per tire, and the TPMS was about $50 pre tire, so you're looking at $400 - $450 more for a RFT set-up. I figure I'm only putting 5000 - 7500 miles on winter tires per year, so they should last a while which is why I didn't mind spending the extra $$ for RFT. I bought the Sport Edition A7 rims from Tire rack - $104 each, they seem fine for what they are used for. 225/45/R17 all around. |

You would need the TPMS sensor installed regardless of Runflat or non runflat... unless u want to put up with a constant dashboard warning. Last April, i swap out the winter tires too quickly.. and one small snow.. i almost couldn't get home.. .. sliding all over the place on summer tires...

I just use the stock tires that came with my Pathfinder
It's nice having my 330 of the streets during the winter. I don't have to worry about some moron plowing into me because they can't drive in the snow

My X5 had sport package with all-season tires and that was awful in the snow!
