How does BMW calculate the lease offers
I see the lease offer is $449 a month with 2500 down and 1000 loyalty cash.
It is based on MSRP 50,125. I tried plugging this base line offer into a lease calculator with .00125 MF and 62% residual. I'm not getting to the same payment before tax as they do. Can someone help me understand this please?

Can you post up the full ad including the fine print?
Usually the fine print has the residual dollars (might not be the same residual %) but not the MF or any other discount of MSRP (ie. dealer contribution). So those are two "degrees of freedom" that make it hard to back in to that payment. Personally I think you are better off looking up the MF and residual % and trying to get a really good discount off MSRP |

I am using the offer found here:
http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...regiontypeid=3 I also used this, not sure how reliable it is: http://www.ridewithg.com/index.php/2...eptember-2013/ I found a basic model with a price of 51,415 before the loyalty bonus, so i was trying to calculate what the payment would be.

I just went through this with my dealer. His explanation was that the MSRP listed is accurate, but the numbers are based off them discounting the car as well. They also assume you are eligible for the loyalty bonus and are a previous BMW financial customer which entitles you to no security deposit(I believe).
The dealer we used was very open about everything and was able to show us his computer worksheet as he plugged the numbers in and got everything to line up. This was a nice relief compared to most dealers who throw numbers at you and don't show the math that got them there so you don't know the deal you are getting. The fine print also indicates, the 2500 doesn't include taxes and other fess, which where I am would have meant closer to 4500 down. |

Also, if you are looking to lease and have the money available, I would recommend multiple security deposits. It's the equivalent of an extra month payment(up to 7) and for each one, they lower the money factor by .00007. It isn't like the down payment where if you total the car on day one, the money is lost and you get it back at the end of the lease.
If you have the money to loan, it ends up working fairly well and you essentially make a good amount of interest off of it since your monthly payments will drop quite a bit for the term of the lease. |

Agreed on the MSDs. One side note is that it makes the lease hard to transfer since most people want no out of pocket and will want you to eat the cost of the MSDs.
OP if you are looking for a z4 or 3er negotiate hard since there is a lot of room for discounting. Particularly on the 28i models I have found. |

Thanks everyone! This has been helpful! I am actually looking for my mother. What should I aim for when negotiating a 28i? 1000 below invoice?

Z428i ?
Not sure on the '14 but FWIW my '12 35i was $2000 under US invoice (i.e. at dealer cost) because it was sitting on the lot for several months when I picked it up last year and $750 over ED invoice was available as well if I wanted to order I don't get the impression the E89 if flying off the shelves without heavy discounting so if I was in your shoes I would lead with a dealer cost offer and go from there. |
