Hmm. 3027cc according to them and they're stating 3300 is dry weight.

Active sound enhancement will be provided as well.

While virtually all electric steering systems use the motor to help unwind the steering wheel, BMW has omitted this function in the M3 and M4. The steering wheel will return to center by the natural self-centering forces of the suspension geometry, just as God intended.

And yes, it's an all-new engine, with an 89.6mm bore and 80.0mm stroke (the 335i measures 84.0 x 89.6, for 2979cc)
This is impossible unless they've increased the bore spacing which I would nearly guarantee is not the case. BMW uses a 91mm bore spacing for all modern I6 engines. A mere 1.4mm between cylinders is not feasible.

"The M3’s exhaust note is deeper and louder than that of a 335i, but not radically different"

well that sucks.

Regarding any change in bore size or displacement from the N55, I very strongly suspect that, if they have indeed achieved it, it is a happy side effect made possible by going from the pressed in cast iron cylinders of the N55 to spray on cylinder liners as mentioned in the press release. The question would then be, did they also destroke from 89.6 back to 3L, or is the displacement up from 3L now?

They also state that the engine is dry sumped. Which it clearly is not. So I trust that they are wrong on this too.

Jens was going to get some confirmation today from the front page, but it looks like there is NO active sound.

Just confirmed that there is some sound modulation, but not in the same way as on the M5/M6. Will post more on this later.
