Interior quality?

Got a 328 loaner from the dealer this week. And spent a couple days with it.

Will the interior quality of the F30 = that of the F80?

Craftsmanship should be the same, but richer materials and special details in the M, and of course additional controls.

If that pans out it'll be huge. My 1 feels much higher quality than the 328 I borrowed.

Any idea if idrive and its CRT-sized monitor can be de-spec'ed?

At the North Pole.

I think they're manufactured at the Regensburg plant, and the engines are built in Munich. If they're not, we'll be hearing about it shortly.

No, IDrive is standard now and cannot be deleted. I believe you'll get a smaller screen size if you do not purchase navigation, but the enclosure will remain the same.

I had an f30 328i today. the aluminum (aluminium) trim on the iDrive panel is prone to damage. as a loaner it had dents, scrapes, etc.

Thanks for clarifying. I love the clean cockpit in my 1, sans idrive.

Have you seen the color HUD in the new Camaros? It is actually pretty awesome. Would be even awesomer if BMW could leverage a HUD tech in lieu of a tablet glued onto my dashboard.

I believe the hud on the bmws are the best in the industry...in the m cars, it also has rpm and mph....it would be awesome if it said SHIFT on the hud once it got to redline

M'a have always been made in the Dingolfing plant. Unless they've changed it recently.

FWIW, my '08 M5 developed a tear in the front passenger seat last month. Not happy with BMW leather quality!

No,the M3's have always been made at the Regensburg plant, which is about 30 minutes outside of Munich.

Correct. If you don't get Nav you have this massive amount of bezel around your 5.5inch screen. Personally I like toys though so I will have nav.

Too bad about the inability to delete the dash-chiclet.

My point w/ bringing up the 'maro, is that GM integrated the info-tainment system into the lower dash design. While putting key driver functions into the HUD, mph, rpm, navi, etc.

I suspect BMW (and Merc) put the chiclet screen so high up is so drivers don't have to take their eyes too far off the road.

Perfection for me would be to have a driver oriented BMW,... drop the bling-screen lower in the dash and integrate it for a clean design. At the same make HUD standard, start by putting key functions in the HUD menu. And IF you REALLY need it, add facebook and twitter into the HUD as well.

My personal opinion is if you need an 8" screen to 'calibrate' your suspension, throttle and shift maps to your liking - then,... I think the car is simply over-complicated.

Anywho - Still can't wait to see the M3/4 in person and give it a good beating.

That sounds good. I like carbon fiber in the interior and I hope this will be an option/or will be available. I look forward to an updated interior compared to the E92 and a HUD would be really nice.

I still can't get over the navigation screen on the F's. Looks like it was just plopped on as an afterthought in the design process. I think it's going to look especially out of place in the new M3/M4. It just doesn't look like a speed-related design item. I drove a 2013 328i for a few months and it bothered me.

Well good thing you got E92 M3. This way you don't have to worry about the new model.

not sure how you can ever correlate navi screen to being speed related design item. interior feel of f30 feels completly different depending on options choosen. i personally didnt get e90 due to interior design. i get compliments all the time on my Interior (given i have coral red leather w m perf carbon trim on m sportline. base line with not much options found on loaner cars may def feel and look much worse.
