Why BMW not release M3/M4 Specs at Pebble Beach

I assume that with the Sept 10 premier of the i8 BMW didn't want the new M3/M4 with their full specs released to steal the i8's thunder... Thoughts?

Why do they need to release specs that many months before the production car's reveal (in January)?

In any case, some technical info will come in the last week of September.

They want to slowly build up to the release. its marketing. We want more and more and they will just give us little bit at a time lol. LOVE it or HATE IT its smart and builds hype!

I think that if they were worried about stealing thunder they would have just held the M4 Concept until Frankfurt and showed the i8 at Pebble Beach instead. Adding some basic specs to the mix would have changed nothing about the impact the i8 will have next week.

They didn't give us specifics simply because they didn't have to, and because it builds hype even more.

I think it would have been very clever of BMW to release the weight if indeed it is ground breaking. The longer the M lineup is an exclusive +4000 lbs club the more exposed they are to redicoule from the competition and press. It is a pretty shameful situation IMO.

Interesting that they chose to launch the M4 concept at Pebble instead of the i8. I know a lot goes into those decisions but impressive that they chose a venue like Pebble for the M4. Says a lot IMO.

Right on. And the M4 Concept won't be at Frankfurt, so the i8 will have its spotlight.

We were given a closed-room preview of the production i8 at Pebble Beach and it looks great in final form (regardless of what one may think of its specs), so it should make a nice impression at Frankfurt.

Jason, is it for sure that M4 Concept will not be at IAA ?
I already planned a trip to Frankfurt hoping to see it
