I didn't know the car could do anything with Android other than basic BT connectivity. I thought it was all Apple-specific (which is fucking lame btw). Curious to hear more...

I actually have a similar question, but regarding an iPhone. Maybe it's device agnostic. I have had extended bluetooth coded in, and while I can listen to BT music, I can't do anything else. I was told that I would be able to receive texts in the car, and a new menu item named "Office" appears, however, all it lists are contacts. Also, when a text comes in, only the sound comes through the speakers, and nothing else.

I don't have any definitive information. I've just never seen anyone mention anything about Android stuff, but tons of people mention being able to use "Siri" through the steering wheel if they have the blah blah blah option and a "Y" cable or whatever.

I've had a bit of an adventure with my S3. Only had the car for 1.5 months. Phone connects and streams music or takes phone calls. I could also receive texts and have the car read them to me. The annoying part is my phone book shows up but can't dial from it. Had my car in service and the loaner linked right up and could dial from the phonebook, but no texts. I'm back in my car now and reset everything. Now my phonebook dial feature works and music streams but no texts.

What I did before was disabled a running part of BT in the applications menu on the phone. After doing this my text messages worked, but still no phone register function to the car so no dialing.

You might give it a try

menu>settings>application manager>running>bluetooth share> Stop PbapService

Pair your phone after doing this and do all the code entering. Then your text messages will work. At least they did for me.

Can you send texts? I can only forward them with CyanogenMod. And apparently the only reason you can't do emails is because the Android email apps do not yet have a MAP interface.

You know, I didn't even try to enter texts. If you enter by the idrive rotor then it doesn't seem like something I'd want to do. If it's voice entry then that might be cool.

How are you supposed to be able to do it?

I don't think this car is capable of speech to text, but that would be great. I click on a message and it has an option for reply, but when I tap the rotor to reply it only lets me forward the message.

Also BMW said they'd have Android app integration by July 2013. Guess they were wrong.

Hmm, not sure. I'll try and get some specs of the system and see what's up. When you look at the compatibility chart between iphone and android they have about the same features with the F30.
