How to get Waze (via iPhone5) on the main screen? Apple TV?
Hello,
I have a new F30 (that I'm loving!), I'd like to get Waze (the best navigation app ever, recently bought by Google for $1.3B) to display or mirror on the main screen. I understand it can be done by installing apple TV? I have only the basic multimedia options installed, I can't play music form my iPhone 5, using the armrest USB and apple's 'White cable'. Any advice is appreciated - many thanks! |

Mirroring smartphones onto the iDrive ("mainscreen") isn't a supported operation. I'm not familiar with aftermarket solutions, but perhaps one exists.

It's still a much nicer and bigger screen, positioned better while driving...
I am looking at after market solutions, someone suggested finding a way to connect an apple TV box to that iDrive screen, anyone knows which connection does it have (VGA, HDMI? etc) |

Here's how to do it:
Get the media cradle for an iDevice with the big connector. Get such a device (iphone5 not supported). Jail break it. Install DisplayOut, Waze, SBRotator. Code your car for Video-In-Motion. Start Waze on the IWhatever. Go to IDrive External Devices. Play a "Video". The iDevice screen is now mirrored to the screen. Phase III: Big Profits. Well done!
What do you mean by the media cradle ? Do you mean the snap in adaptor for the enhanced Bluetooth in the armrest? |

I still haven't coded video-in-motion yet for the car, so I can only see this while parked. I'm working on it though. |

AFAIK, this works because BMW supports display of analog video in via iphone cradle and iphone until lightning cable supported analog video out on the 30-pin connector.
IP5 does not have analog video out. It will take a messy mashup to get the digital video de-muxed from the lightning cable and converted back to analog video and merged back to 30-pin connector back into the BMW.
