BMW 318d-320d Whats the real difference?

I was talking to the parts guy at my dealership yesterday, and he said the only difference in the engine is the tune (which i dont believe, because some part numbers are different).

my original plan was to eventually make it to a 320d, but the guy said it was technically impossible to code the 318d to the 320d even if i replaced all necessary parts (tune is tied to the VIN apparently?) is this true?

Can someone tell me the real difference between a 318d and a 320d? Love everything about the car, just needs a bit more power..

Hi,
I asked myself the same question some time ago concerning the 118d and the 120d.
there are at least 2 parts which are different, the turbo and the injectors are not the same.
Afterwards you might have some differences on the crank shaft.
