How many M4 owners will re-badge to M3?
I will most likely buy a M3 sedan anyways due to practicality and current life situation, but if I had a M4, I would think very strongly to rebadge it to a M3.
Thoughts? |

That's an odd but certainly not a ridiculous idea. I would bet that less than 1/2 of 1% of people will do this. Just a rough, off the cuff guess. A lot of folks don't like the change, the idea and the assured cost increase (relative to the new 4 door M3), myself included. That being said, 4 being "bigger and better" than 3 is hard to pry out of folks heads and hands. On a personal level I would not rebadge if I ever own the car.

It's would be moronic to rebadge it because the side gills are still going to say M4 (and expected to be ridiculously expensive to modify with the sedan's part if they're identical) as well as any other references inside the cockpit/dashboard. It's time people just live with the name.
I'm more concerned with the engine and BMW staying true to the inline 6!

Isn't anyone tired of calling it a 3 SEDAN or a 3 COUPE. Finally BMW has made the naming work so that it is a 3 or a 4. Honestly its about time.
Anyone who rebadges an M4 to read M3 is moronic. |

I don't like the M4 designation. M3 has heritage. But a name is a name. It is now an M4 and this is what will be displayed on my trunk lid (and front grill and sidegills ).

I think i may just get rid of the "4" on the trunk lid. it looks like an afterthought.

Rebadging the M4 as an M3 will show that individual is as backward as Kanye West.

I certainly won't do that. Gone is gone, the M4 will be the new legend.
Although I did like the M3 name more.

Do people put "Skyline" badges on their R35 GTR? Honestly curious about that.
I wonder if Ferrari or Lamborghini owners are annoyed that the model names change every generation? I mean think of all that lost heritage. If it has a V6 under the hood that says "M V6" maybe we can rebadge that to "M I6". And rebadge the turbo-charger to... the absence thereof? And also rebadge the numbers on the tach to 1000 RPM higher. |

I personally am not going to rebadge my M4. I also don't plan on any aftermarket modifications, but that is just me. I like the idea of keeping it stock with the warranty and leaving it what it is officially identified as. Which is an M4. I can however, understand why some would rebadge it, but to each their own.

I think this is the first dumb thread/idea in the M4 forum!
I feel so confused to see people "rebadging" cars, good example is Acura onwers making it Honda but I guess maybe its "ok" since in Japan its Honda and no Acura, just for fanbois. But an M3 is different than an M4 why put a "wrong" badge on it. Anyone with Audi rebadging the S4 with S5 or vice versa?

I understand the knee-jerk reaction at the time they announced they were killing the M3 coupe in name. I especially understand Marines or Brits having trouble disassociating the name M4 with their respective guns and motorways.
At this point in time though, I have heard enough about it (and that's probably why they are releasing SO much info about the M4 over the M3) that it's starting to sound okay. I find it fitting, too. It's a completely different car compared to the original M3. When comparing to the O.G. it's huge, turbo'd, best in automatic form, and significantly more expensive. If that doesn't warrant a name change...what would? Plus the wonderful irony that the only ones realistically wanting to rebadge an M4 as an M3 are going to be the ones so infatuated with the name that they have been making fun of people rebadging over the last few decades... |
