What happened to flashing lights?
So I've had my 07 e90 335i sport for about a year now. Years ago my 1st car was an '81 320i. I admit now with the mainstream reality of BMW and the 3 series the days of flashing other bmw drivers and actually getting a response are long gone. I love the car, it is truly a drivers vehicle, but now the enthusiast is just not the typical BMW driver. Clearly most if not everyone on this forum is an exception, but the average 328 (no offense to anyone) you may pass has no idea why you are flashing them. Cop? Maybe, clueless, likely. I admit I miss those days. Anyone know what I mean?

I was driving down a dark road and flashed my blinkers at a 328 lci. He flashed back, I put my blinkers on and we both stopped to check out the cars

Around here its Minis, Beetles, Wranglers and Bikes.
Never had a fellow enthusiast wave, beep, flash or swerve into my lane with the E46 or E92. Even around here is seems like most ///Ms are driven by trophy wives so I doubt they would wave back. |

BMW has become so common now its very unlikely to get recognition back. Personally, I don't think its an exclusive brand anymore and I'd say like 70% of the people driving them bought it as an enthusiast's car. Only once when my car was broken on the side of the rode a e92 328i pulled over to help me out. Before he stopped I saw like 5 other BMW drivers not even glance over. And before that I've never gotten a flash or anything like that.

Hmm now that I think about it.. I don't get much thumbs up or a wave from E9X drivers. It's usually someone with a modded E46 M3, other BMW model's or Audi's. But then again where I live, there's not many heavily modded E9X's.
But a couple weeks ago or so, no joke, I seen pizza delivery guys from different companies wave at each other as they were passing by lol. Thought it was weird and cool I guess.

Faint!
It is funny...when I owned my first Porsche, a Boxster, in 99, all Boxster drivers waved, but not 911 drivers...then when I bought my 911, I understood. 911 drivers will (someties) wave to each other, but 911 drivers don't wave to "inferior" Boxsters...I did. When I had my Ferrari, I never saw another when driving, but did wave to a few Lambo owners and Ford GTs. I just love cars and appreciate them, regardless of the brand. I had a guy in a similarly colored Lexus with similar wheels as mine give me a thumbs up the other day. I appreciated it and waved back. Most people seem oblivious to other cars and drivers, they just don't care or are too self absorbed to notice.

Always see modded BMW and would like to wave/flash thumbs up but I rarely do it because of the stare the other driver gives. Almost threatening sometimes.
You have to remember tho OP that not every tradition seems to carry over as younger drivers are now owners of a BMW. Maybe we can start the wave again but it might be blinding to other users of the road with so many BMWs around.
