New to me 335 XDRIVE review!!

I will start this off by saying that i had my heart set on buying an M3 sedan but after much consideration and pondering i decided on the 335 xdrive because of our poor roads and 6 months of winter, i will have an M3 some day but now is not the time i guess. I purchased my 2011 335 from a good friend of mine, he (55 years old) ordered it new and it has 20,000kms on it now. Before this car i had a 2006 325i and i honestly loved it! Never felt as though it was under powered and it was a great driver, just lusted for an M3 and that was my goal. Things i noticed that has been deleated from the 325 and upgrading to the 335 are..... No heated-cooled center console, no actual lock on the trunk lid, no lenses on the map lights (you can actualy touch the bulb), nets on back of seats gone, no "rest" button on climate control, no option for the seat to retract to furthest rear position upon entry when using key fob to unlock, door seals are just rubber- no nice felt anymore, tool kit is not as full (missing tools), no script on inner headlight that says BMW XENON bla..bla..., for some odd reason the audiophile system in this car does not sound as good as the logic 7 in the 325i IMO, sun visors are cheap plastic instead of fabric in 325, no under hood insulation, and no flashlight in the glove compartment. Im sure im missing something and i will add them as i remember. The torque of the 335 is very nice and traction is not an issue! Better on fuel as well, i didnt expect that! Handling is not an issue for me here because i dont track the car and the Canadian praries are dead flat and straight, very very boring. the only options my car dont have are the M sport package and apps, has everything else... adaptive steering, sport seats, sound, alarm...etc. will upload some pics soon. Warranty till end of sept 2016 with extended maintenance plus a BMW winter aluminum wheel a winter tire package. Time will tell how this works out.... planing on coob or jb next spring plus an fmic, should be fun.

Not sure if it was the poor roads or the 6 months of winter that was a dead giveaway. As fellow Canadians, we know its actually both!

Anyway, nice review and sounds like a great car. What kind of winter tires did you get with it? I'm about to order some Hakka R2, but prob not on OEM rims. Will first talk to local dealer (Birchwood) to see what they can offer.

If you're in Winnipeg, the local car club is having a driver training day on 17 August out at St Andrews. Might be a chance to get the back end out of a shape. I'm tempted, but your car would be far more fun than mine!

Lots of great info in your post, but it is incredibly hard to read. Fixed for you:

I forgot my OCD meds this morning

I have a 2011 and I wouldn't have known those things were different in the earlier models. It was interesting to find out where they reduced costs.

No option for the seat to retract to furthest rear position upon entry when using key fob to unlock
I wonder if this can be coded in.
No script on inner headlight that says BMW XENON bla..bla...
Mine still has this. Maybe it's because I have an 03/10 build.
No flashlight in the glove compartment.
I think the slot is still there, so you can buy one from an old car and its plug and play.

My build date is 6/10 and there is no slot for the flashlight in my car.

In my 2006 325 there was a switch inside there to open a vent and depending on what the climate control was set on ( heat or AC) that's what the temp was in there, worked great! There was also a cup holder that a can of pop or a short coffee cup fit. I really miss that feature.

Yes I came from an 06 325 as well, great car. I also miss the cooling feature in the center console. As far as heat at rest is concerned.... I read here it can be programmed as a feature again. Forgot how but maybe someone can chirp in that knows this.

I have Contiwinter Contact TS8's mounted OEM aluminum wheels. Not sure how good they will perform, the seller said they were great so i guess time will tell. I highly doubt i could "get the back end out" with XDrive but trying sounds like it could be fun, just dont have the time to do so. I live just 2 hours west of Winnipeg and my car goes to Birchwood for warranty service, have always been treated fairly there. 2 more things i noticed missing on the 335 compared to the 325, the "emergency" key holder in the glove compartment is gone and the door latches mounted to the car are no longer chrome, just an unfinished metal finish............ all these things sure do add up.

Sorry but it was.

I'm curious but what do you think of the adaptive steering feature? It always seems to be a hit-and-miss around here in the forums.

I like it, nicely assisted in parking lots-parking, but feels direct at higher speeds.

Yea... Sometimes I wish there was an "ignore all posts from this user" option. He has about fourty eight threads in the wheel and tire forum asking the same thing over and over again.

Anyyyway... Find out anything new and different between your old and new car?
