Is this a bad idea?

Ok, so first off i know this is the wrong place for this but i just wanted some opinions. Today on my way home i passed an old 325i for sale on the side of the road. They're asking $2,000 OBO or trade. Could anybody tell me about what year it is? Is it worth it? Ill post some pics when i get home. I cant figure out how to post them on my phone. Any and all advice is appreciated!!

I actually was thinking of doing this. I'd love an E30 325is with relatively good body work and a good interior. The engine/drivetrain is something I'd love to be able to work on on weekends with friends.

I'd say if it's in relatively good working order and depending on what you want it for (weekend car, car to work on, etc.) than it's a decent price. Personally, I haven't found anything for less than $4k that would be suitable for my purposes. Interested in seeing photos though!

Best of luck to you!

I dont really mind the color. It has hail dimples on the hood roof and trunk so if I end up getting it Ill probably fix all that later down the line.

They're playing you. There are no pictures showing up.

The red was a good guess though.

If something has body damage trust me you'll end up having a nightmare unless you know someone who's good at body work and paint. Bondo isn't something you want to put all over a car.

Sometimes hail damage causes entire panels that need to be removed.

If you want an e30 m3 then buy one, don't buy a $2000 car and invest $20k into it. You can find an e30 m3 for around $10-15k in decent condition.

I really just want the car to use as a daily driver. I don't really mind the dimples anyways. Hahaha.

So this has fail all over it, but I'll help out for real....

OP does the car have 4 round glass head lights? If so it's an E30. If it has large metal bumpers then it's a 1984 - 1988 E30. If it has small plastic bumpers then it's a 1989 - 1991. If it is a convertible with plastic bumpers it's a 1992.

If it has modern plastic aero head lights then and gray plastic rocker panels with round circle covers in front of the rear wheels and behind the front wheels then it's an early (1992-->) E36.

If it has plastic head lamps with halo rings and decent paint (and says 325i on the trunk) then it's a late model E46.
