335xi or Audi TTS?
So my Evo X should be gone very shortly here and I originally wanted to get back into another 335xi. I loved the 335xi I owned a few years ago but when I started to look around and see what else was out their as far as a turbocharged, all wheel drive luxury car, I ran across the Audi TTS. Now I have never been a huge fan of Audis as a few of my friends have had older S4s and had a lot of problems with them. However, when I did research the TTS it seems to have a pretty good track record for reliability and it uses the 2.0T engine that has been a great performer for VW/Audi. I also like the fact that the 2.0T hasn't had any major issues with it's turbo while the 335 has had some problems. This is important to me as I plan on modding whatever car I end up with next. So guys, I would appreciate any input from someone who has considered the TTS before or maybe someone who has driven or ridden in one and could compare it to the 335xi.

Do a search for lots of opinions from people who have considered or owned a TTS.
I've owned both and in a nutshell, the TTS is more of a sports car, has much more off idle lag and really is quite small. The 335 is more of a sports sedan, better engine, much more space inside. The DCT in the Audi is not the best but does shift really quick, overall mileage is about the same since the Audi revs higher on the highway. Can't go wrong with either, but potentially more regret with the Audi due to the above! |

I traded my tts for my 335. I only owned it for about 9 months. Overall, I found the tts a bit lackluster, and not very "mod friendly." I also wanted a little bit more breathing room inside the car. I moved I to an E92 335i and have no regrets whatsoever.

You should know better than to ask a bmw forum lol ask an audi forum and see their replies. The only way you'll know is test driving both and go from there. Ignore people's opinions.

Go out and drive both to see what you like. A 335xi would be waaaay more practical but it depends how you are using the car. If its a DD I would probably get the Audi IF you don't need a lot of space. If its a weekend car that you take to cruise with the wife I would still get the Audi. But really, it just depends on whether or not you need the space. It would be easier to get the 335xi and have the extra space when needed. If you need space, get the BMW. If you don't, get the Audi. But hey, this is just my opinion.

I have had several modded 1.8T and 2.0T audis including an APR stage 3 turbo kit on an original TT 1.8T and now drive a FBO 335i. The N54 is a much much better engine modded or not power wise. The 50% additional displacement makes a HUGE difference. I wont even consider another Audi until they come out with a good twin turbo six again.

I have had several chances to drive my Mom's Golf R which I understand has basically the same mechanicals and specs as the TTS and it's a great ride but I would take the 335i any day of the week. The 2.0T is slower to develop power, less responsive to mods, and does not really deliver much of a fuel economy benefit for the decreased displacement. Bottom line: I could live with a stock 335i, but I would have to mod the TTS/Golf R to be happy with it.
