Just Retrofitted Garage Door/Auto Dim rear view mirror

As it states... finally, almost 3yrs after I bought my 335i I got the correct rear view mirror in it. Garage door, Auto Dim & Compass. I am so thrilled.... what a difference. It's 2013 for Pete sake and I have to dig into the console every time I came home to open the garage door. My wife's '08 C300 (short lived in our house) had a nice mirror but no compass. Got mine off eBay, it's got the low profile red clown nose too. Came off a '09 3'er. I paid $179 for the mirror, $30 for the wiring kit from BMW parts store. And now I'm going to eBay my basic mirror. Well worth mod.

Nice price! I've done this on all of my BMWs including the E34s and E32. One of the best bang for the buck things you can do to simplify your life.

Nice! I want to do this on my car. I already have the auto dimming mirror though. It should be plug and play from what I read?

I have an 06 330i with the basic mirror, is it not auto dimming, if not how do you have dim at night? Or is that not something it will do, it seems like when I drive it at night it doesn't dim. Even the 03 325i I had did it. Anyone know. Thanks in advance.

Really interested in doing this myself. How difficult was it?

^ The most difficult part was removing the overhead light/console. those two front clips... Mother F those things. 1hr job. Very easy. Just the info and research on what kind of mirror you need, etc is the PITA. I have the install instructions from BMW in PDF format if anyone wants. That helped out a lot. And I found a good Youtube video. Yes, very good mod in today's lifestyle. Makes life much easier and I have one less thing in the console flapping around. I love it. Drove it last night to the gym, worked great. I did have to calibrate the compass but that's it.

Wonder how hard adding blue-tooth would be.... I love these factory addition projects.

My 07 328 was wired for the mirror(I already had auto dim) and it took around three minutes to swap mirrors

Super easy and quick.

Got an older homelink with the big clown nose... At 80 bucks shipped I don't mind.

The most practical and utilized mod. By far.

No coding. I read through the BMW tech sheet and it does state to re-code the car, but from what I gathered it's really only useful for Auto Trans. Something about it going bright in R gear, Park or whatever... even if I had an auto I would not recode. Waste of time and money.

Good catch, I forgot about autos. It disables the dimming while backing up to prevent the mirror going dark while backing out of a dark garage during the day. It's not 100% necessary though.

I got mine from a salvage yard through car-part.com for 60 dollars...used the money I saved to have the dealer install it.
