"soft touch" covering peeling off
The "soft touch" covering on some of the interior plastic parts is peeling off on my E90. I have one moonth left on my factory warranty and was wondering if anyone had any luck in getting these replaced under warranty?
Thanks. |

I'm pretty sure you can get those pieces replaced under factory warranty, at least that's what I've seen a couple of people say on the forum. Maybe someone that has done this before can chime in.

yes you can, inspect the car and find what other things need to be replaced before warranty expires and get them replaced.

They replaced steering wheel and side door handle under warranty for me about 4 yrs ago. Too bad it started to peel off again about 2 yrs after. Only the steering wheel though, side door panel no pealing.

No they are not covered under warranty. The dealer sometimes will just replace them for you if they feel like it. But it's considered a wear and tear item. I was e46fanatics.com and most of them fix those plastics with plastidip they sand it down and apply a couple coats.

They replaced my Start Stop button without question because it's a safety issue. Anything that has writing on it to control the car they need to make sure is working fine. That's what they told me. However, they did replace my friends 128i steering wheel trim because it was peeling....

My car is 7 years old and nothing ever peeled. Do you guys use hand sanitizer or hand lotion? I remember reading somewhere that could cause the material to break down over time.

On my car it has pelled on the sides of the center console, looks terrible, does any know a link that shows a DIY how to fix it, my car was a CPO. Would have been nice if the previous owner would have had it fixed before the warinty ran out

I'll setup an appointment with my local dealer since it also looks like some of the pixels in the stereo might be out. Stuff peeling everywhere looks like crap and it's obvious that BMW doesn't do any testing on the quality of their interior materials that they use anymore. I better not have any issues in getting all of the affected parts replaced.
Thanks for the feedback. |
