Is xDrive same as AWD ?

This month , I read our local BMW owner magazine saying xDrive is a feature of 2006 models including E90. I am aware of xDrive is not presently on the 330i I have ordered. Just wonder anyone here who has already ordered a E90 with xDrive?

thx

Yes its pretty much the same. xDrive is kind of like Audi having the Quattro models. Use the search function. And whenever you come across a E90 post member with their car model having an "xi" in it, then they have an xDrive model car.

xDrive is AWD. It's what BMW calls their AWD system.

Quattro=Audi
4Matic=MB
SH-AWD=Honda/Acura
Atessa=Nissan/Infiniti

Thx all. And damn it, I am questioning when will BMW Hong Kong stop selling outdated BMW models to the citizens?
My biggest dissatisfaction with BMW Hong Kong is they are not speed to market and they tell you nothing.
The shit saleman ( I wish he is reading this ) was not even encouraging me to custom order my 300i for the AS.

Not all E90's have Xdrive. BMW only sells xi models where the climate would need it. Here in sunny South Africa, we don't get the xi's either, because there is no snow!

Based on the HK BMW owner mazagine, it sounds the xDrive is gonna to be available in all BMW models 'next year'? And damn, can someone tells me something really bad about xDrive so I can welcome my new car in a peace of mind in Jan. e.g. eats more fuel ? More mechanical/eletronics issues?

Honestly, I read that the true Porsche lovers dont buy the Carrea 4 because they only believe rear drive is the real sports car. However, as for a street car, I also been hearing lots of good things about AWD that how stable it is to do a cornering.

As said xdrive is variable AWD and thats what xi models are

Only reason to get one really is snow
xi models are heavier ans slower

X3 and latest X5 also have Xdrive

You get 3 Series xi models and 5 Series xi models

Xdrive is more advance than most all-wheel drive systems out there. It is an electronic system that senses wheel slippage instantaniously and automatically redistributes the power. Most other all-wheel drive systems on the market are mechanical-passive systems that require a wheel to significantly slip before the system can send power to the opposite side.

Available in all model means you can order the X-drive (the Xi models); BMW will still sell the RWD as their major products.
