335i engine oil..
Yeah so I know it's been done on here before and from what my search returned I opted to go for Castrol Edge 5/30 despite the many other optiones out there.
Reason being that the oil cap on my moter has Castrol embossed on it so I thought I'd keep it Castrol. Anyhow browsing the web for deals I saw that EuroCarParts currently have a 40% off deal so hopped on to their website. However when I typed in my reg and then searched for engine oil the site returned only Castrol Edge 0/30 for my engine. Question is do I go with the ECP website or go with the general consensus here. Also can anyone explain whether there is a signifigant difference between 0/30 and 5/30. I have a 57 N54 model with JB4 fitted. cheers |

The difference is that 0/30 performs better in very cold weather and provides more protection on cold start. Seeing as you come from the Uk and it is 'summer' that is not going to be an issue. It is the 30 and to a lesser extent the Castrol Edge that are the more important factors.

Cool, thanks nicktyler. I am happy to go with that with the limited knowledge I have from reading about oil weights.
If anyone else has any other knowledge input please post also. |

^^ I'm going for 5W-40 next time.
Don't skimp on the oil. You can get 8 litres of castrol for £50 if you keep your eyes peeled. Is it really worth skimping to save £10/15 when it comes to the most expensive part of the car? |

Wouldn't have thought their recommendation would differ between Edge and Magnatec |

But they dont mention EDGE 5W-30, which is also LL-04 (is that because it is cheaper than 0W-30 and they want you to buy the more expensive product!)

Probably because their website is not really the encyclopedia of oil. They mention magnatec, which I would not let near my engine, and is much cheaper than edge.

I'm all over either Shell (previous BMW) or Castrol edge. The difference between the 0w and 5w as mentioned is the added protection from cold, however it is more of a cost thing for our climate at the moment to be honest...

It is not as high quality as edge. I don't think its a proper fully synthetic either? For the sake of £20 or so, I don't see the point of going with the unproven, middle of the range oil vs the one that is pretty well ranked for the N54 engine.
National will do a oil change with 7 litres of edge 5W-30 for £55 https://www.national.co.uk/oil-vehicle-search.aspx |

I would never put "budget" oil into my 335i...call me a brand whore...but it will only be castrol edge or mobil 1 esp...or fuchs ( might be trying it for my next oil change)...
