What excuses do you make to go drive?
Let's face it, many of us own BMW's 'cause we simply love to drive them and because of that, I know we'll make excuses to the spouse or even to ourselves knowing full well, we could probably do these errands tomorrow. For instance, it's 9:39PM right now. but I'm gonna go put gas in my ride and get me a coke even though I could do it tomorrow when I drop the boys off for daycare.
Cya' fellas!

I just say, "I'm going to go on a drive, I haven't had a chance to drive for fun in a while."
When you have awesome hill country roads like we do here around Austin, you can only go purely for fun because there isn't really a practical destination at the end of them. But the wife knows that cars and technology are my two passions, and even though she doesn't see the appeal of cars (she kinda does on tech), she doesn't give me flak about them and accepts that I'll spend a fair amount of cash there -- just as I accept that she has her hobbies where she'll spend money even if I don't see the value.

I always tell the wife that I am going out to fix something on the car real quick. Then I come back and say "Wow it runs so much better now!" So I look like a hero, and get my drive in.

Going for a drive alone on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night in my BMW is one of the only ways I can relieve the stress of a long work/school week, family, commuting/traffic, and the day to day thing.
I feel mentally and physically relieved after going for a drive at night through some curvy roads or blasting down the highway with no traffic or distractions to bother me.

The sad thing is the bimmer is my wife's daily driver and the only way I can get to drive it is when I am working on the car

I tend to love to drive my car when I have some fun to drive on roads to use to get to a given destination. I want it to be fun going there. I don't just invent reasons to drive. I especially won't do that around here at night for there are just too many dear to make night driving all that enjoyable. I don't know where you are, but around the DC area, they are just everywhere and if they are of a mind to leap out in front of you at some instant, nothing's stopping them.
Older deer seem to have figured out how vehicles work and what to do around them. But the old deer don't seem to talk to the young deer.

Anytime I go out with the Lady I volunteer to drive. Granted she drives a Mazda 3 and has no idea where she's going half the time it works out for the best.

I just say I'm getting toiletries and beer but end up staying out for much longer...I find myself driving loops around town. I call them Arab Loops because all of my buddies from Dubai drive around town in circles in their R8's, C63 AMG's, Vipers, etc...lol I never get sick of driving my car. It never gets old...I have never once said I'm wasting fuel because every time I sit in my car and drive, I always have a smile on my face.

Btw, this is actually a good thread.
Every once in a blue moon a good topic arises.

I travel a lot, so when I get home from my business trips, I usually take the car out for a run. Most of the time when I'm gone for longer than a week, I'll ask my wife to drive it, but she usually uses it to go to the grocery store (1.5 miles away), or drop the kid off at the nanny (less than a mile).

I don't make excuses, but I do find myself more willing to take care of honey do's, if they require a quick trip 5 miles away. Also, I find myself more willing to do the milk runs and things like that. So it is actually a marriage enhancer!

yesterday was kinda funny. I picked up food and got to my house and started eating while watchng tv. I suddenly realized I forgot to get a soda and I could have had water at home. Instead I got all excited and drove to the nearest shop to get a soda 20% because I wanted a soda and 80% cause I got to drive again...
