$520 for front side door and $270 for front side panel...I hope these are the right prices. Here is the site I looked them up at: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/

Realoem.com is only good for referencing part #'s. It does not have accurate part prices. Just use the part #'s you find and call up Pacific BMW or Circle BMW for better prices.

Is there a way to only get the "skin" of the door, instead of having to replace the whole door if the outside was damaged, but not the inside? That ebay price seems a bit steep...

As Jason said, use the real oem site to get your part # and call around (circle or pacific) for price. The figures I gave you were just for the panels.

No, since you need some special machines to produce the door

You used to be able to buy just the metal part of the door (for the E46) and then get a panel beater (body shop) to fit it and put all the insides in.

My father did that once after some maniac kicked a massive dent in his door.

You still get only the metal bit, but you cannot just get the skin.

you remember how the doors looked at the factory, right in the beginning where they were being offloaded, thats how you get it. You then fit all "non-metal" bits from the old door to it

Hey, i had unfortunate experience of someone reversing into my drivers door/panel!Overall it came to around £1200 for parts and paint and fitment...from BMW dealer, so may be a bit steep, but wanted to get it done right!
