window streaks on e92?
hey guys...i love my car...the only thing that bothers me (overall) is my windows! I have tints x 4 years but i don't think taht's the issue. take a look at these pictures. Everytime i roll down the window and it comes up i get these white marks...they are sort of rubber-like in texture because they wipe off super easy. no scratch marks that I can tell in the tint or window. they are on both driver and passenger doors on my e92. what is it? how do i fix it? easy fix or do i need to bring it somewhere? if its a window "tension" thing because of the frameless part if we make it loose won't there be wind noise? at this point i live with it but its kind of hideous for a 50K+ car.
thanks guys for the input and help in advance!

Ahhh...the good ol' window streaking "feature." I went to the dealer once- they "cleaned the window tracks."
Still does it...meh Doesn't look like you're tinted- however, if you plan on tinting - go with a shop that will install moleskin- that should take care of it. |

I had the exact same thing on mine with tinted windows. I opened up the door panel and found out the place that installed my tint had put some moleskin in without me knowing (was good to prevent scratching) but the moleskin is installed with double sided tape. They didn't cut it perfectly and some of the glue from the double sided tape was coming off and leaving the streaks. I just took off what they installed and threw some more on there and trimmed it perfectly and now no more streaks.

This is Faz, I'm located around Central NJ and we usually try to put together weekend meetups to help local e9x'ers with issues like yours. If your willing to make the trek out to 07095 (near the woodbridge mall)... I'll be more than happy to help you with this task of installing Tint Protector (http://www.tintprotector.com/bmw/index.htm). Check out their site and order it before Aug 4th to get the $5 discount promotion they have going on. I'll be holding an event on August 10th where we can take on this task if you like. I'll create a new thread here and you can sign up for a spot. We can also do the rear fog light lego mod for you we do this for free, but you need to bring your own lego pieces If you need the tint protector installed urgently then send me a PM and I'll see what I can do. But it would be better if you can wait till the meetup so everyone can learn the process. FWIW, this is a learning meetup for everyone including you, you will be doing the work and I will be guiding you in how to do (Don't worry I've done this on my car and I have the tools too, you just need to bring the tint protector from the link provided above). - Faz |

I think only Tint Protector manufacturers the moleskin with stronger adhesive for car use. Just make sure your tint shop uses the good stuff and you will be fine. I first used Velcro and it left glue all over my windows. I then bought some moleskin from some website cheap. It also fell off and left glue everywhere. I then found the Tint Protector stuff and it's been years with no issues. Bottom line is you get what you pay for. |
