Any success replacing or repainting roof moldings?

Question

My 09 LCI that is still under CPO warranty has both sides of the roof moldings cracking and baring aluminum at this point.

Has anyone had any success taking these off and repainting them? If so, with what? plasti dip? what about replacing them do the parts at tischer come painted already?

Thanks

this is what I'm talking about:

Is that not covered under the CPO warranty? Based only on your statement (I can't really tell what I'm looking at in the pic), if the roof molding is cracking, I'd let BMW fix it. After they fix it, I might do whatever cosmetic thing suits me. I wouldn't plasti-dip it as a way to cover up something that's broken if it is covered under the CPO warranty.

If it isn't covered by the warranty, I might try plasti-dip, but I'd more likely have a body shop repair the damage. The main reason I say that is because I believe those moldings play a role in keeping water out of the car. I would be concerned about the integrity of the body and the risk of rust happening if the issue isn't handled correctly.

Good luck and all the best.

I think i have heard about this being a common occurrence. You can get the replacement rubber molding from Tisher and DIY. An alternative would be to find a windshield replacement shop and have them do the molding install.

I have taken mine off and repainted them. Mine were black, so I just got some standard trim paint from Autozone and it matches fine.

Mine came out great.
