I think maybe it's the dual mass flywheel but I'm not sure; totally normal.

Is the noise coming from the front or rear?

Not so sure cuz I havent ask someone else to turn the car off for me, but I could say it is somewhere under the gear stick and engine

I had a noise like yours but it wasn't as loud and it was coming from the rear...brought it in and they changed the exhaust caps

I remember some years ago on this forum, someone else had the exact same sound, posted a video of it. If I recall, I had thought it was the direct injectors (and perfectly normal), but someone else came in and mentioned it was something else. Damn, I can't remember what they said it was, but I do remember it's quite safe and normal.

BTW, I get the same sound (rattling sound on engine-off); 6 MT here.

EDIT: Let me try to search through some of my old (early) threads....

Okay, back from a quick tour down memory lane here.

Turn the engine off while holding the clutch in. If the noise goes away, it's the infamous manual tranny "death rattle" (ironically named: it's okay). If the sound is still there.....well.....

I somewhat resembles the turbo waste gate (TWG) rattle. Does it only exist when the car is cold started and during the first few minutes of running after a cold start? If so, I'd say it TWG rattle.

Sadly, given the quality of the recording, that sound might resemble any number of things. I'd at have an expert definitively ascertain the true cause. Once I knew what it is, I'd then decide what, if anything I'd do about it.

Well, if you do what I suggested and the noise goes away with the clutch pedal pushed in, then the noise is from the dual-mass flywheel.
I've read that this is a common....feature....of many different brands of cars that have manual transmissions and dual-mass flywheels. Nothing to be worried about.

Ha! You have a 335; you'll have other things to worry about on the track (i.e. limp mode overheating).

This... Do what galahad05 said, press in the clutch pedal while shutting off the engine and if it doesn't make that sound it's the dual mass flywheel and it totally normal. I've got used to shutting off the car like this as my car made this noise since new.

Pretty sure this sound is normal when shutting it off with the clutch out. Mine has always done this when I turn it off in neutral with the clutch out. But when I have the clutch in (almost always) it doesn't make that noise. If yours doesn't make it when your clutch is in then you're fine.

Sounds perfectly normal for an MT car. My E46 made the same noise if I shut it off with the clutch out, same with my Jeep Wrangler and my E90. I don't think you have anything to worry about, but if the noise bothers you then just make sure you have the clutch depressed when you switch off the car.
