Major Service Issue - Fuel Injectors / No Warranty...does recall apply?
So I just got a call from my local dealership...
Took my car in for it to be checked out as I was having issues running. The car felt like it had a bad HPFP and I scanned it over the weekend with a friends COBB. Got four codes: Golf Tee Mod Mixture Control Mixture Control Possible Fuel Pump Failure Cleared the codes...drove around for a minute and got all three codes back minus the Possible Fuel Pump Failure - figured it'll come back again. So I figured I'd take it in to get serviced - I scanned it before because I am 3 months out of warranty and wanted to make sure I wasn't getting myself into some shit. Well I'm in some shit. Just got a call...no trace of a bad HPFP but it seems my injectors are bad. The cost you ask>>> $2,700. FML So I come on here...look around and notice there was a recall for injectors: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=519 ^^^3rd attachment I immediately look up my vin on REALOEM.com and see my production date was 08/2008 - which is within the 04/02/2007-10/31/2008 window. Would this still apply to me? How long is this recall good for? Any insight would be great...I'm bumming out pretty bad and need some feedback |

If this was already done to your car, than it is not covered a second time.

Let's pretend for a minute - If it was NOT done...does this recall still apply? Would I be able to leverage them into honoring it? Don't know how I would leverage them as they have my balls in their palm...but I can try... |

Find out if they were ever done before. Also, I might be wrong, but that sounds like a pretty steep price. Shop around for the parts and get a quote from an indy to install.

Edit: On a side note, my injectors were done under the recall two years ago. They all needed to be replaced again a month ago. Luckily they were covered under CPO this time, but the point is there are known issues with this part. Despite missing the recall originally, they should give you the benefit now if they were never done. |

Not the first owner...but purchased the car back in August 2011. The recall was announced December 2010. Don't know if it was already done...but I can definitely ask.

Give them the recall #, some dealerships do not even check for that. And if they do say that it was replaced ask for written proof as if warranty / recall work was done they should have it on file.

Injectors are a pretty easy DIY, if you can do that sort of thing. Worst part is the new p/n that just came out which are about $200 per injector.

It was replaced March 2011...and I don't know who replaced it - I didn't have the car. I'm guessing it was the previous owner who took it in.

I believe your service history should show this and most dealerships will give you that for free. Maybe call your nearest dealer and ask? Also, I'm not sure if it matters, but I wonder if they replaced injectors with the correct ones (I believe updated version).

Just asked. They were replaced under warranty...but even the current ones installed on my car aren't as NEW as the ones they'd replace them with. So technically...the recall wouldn't count for my car.

I think the warranty on this type of work is one year, not two. Sorry op. look into getting the parts yourself and having independent do the work.

I recently found a local shop who is run by ex-Fields mechanic. Give him a call, 407-375-5547 his name is Ghani. I never used him but got a quote from him recently which was 50% below what fields quoted me.

If all else fails, get parts yourself and go to a good indy and that should save you quite a lot. I've found some injectors on rockauto.com but I do not have any experience with them (they are about $100 each). |

FWIW I've read that Techron fuel injector cleaner works wonders for these cars. If it was my car I'd try a couple of bottles of that first to see if the injectors just need to be cleaned.

In any case, looks like there's no getting someone else to pay for it at this point. If they really are the culprit, I guess it's $2700 or do it yourself!

So new replacement FI only last a few years? That's crap if I must say so, I would be quite frustrated with the $2700!

other than that here is the diy for injector replacement http://www.***********.com/showthrea...ector-swap-DIY but try the cheapest solution first, use some techron (3/4 of the bottle with a full tank) i usually do it every 5000 miles. if that doesnt work you will have to buy the injector which is approx 130$/eachx6=780 +/- and not 2700!!!! |
