Baby Seat - 3 serie vs 5 serie

Hi,

I currently own a 2006 328 that I am very happy with. I am expecting a baby in a few weeks and purchased this child seat: http://www.maxi-cosi.com/us-en/produ...-car-seat.aspx

It fits fine in the car. But me and my wife are both tall Europeans (living in US) over 6ft and the passenger seat has to be moved so much forward that there is no fun being in the car for longer than 5 minutes for whoever is passenger seat.

Would upgrading to a 5 serie help much?

Thank you

Kaspar

Skip the 5er and just go straight to the 7er because the cost for a CPO between the two is so close. You can bargain harder on the 7er because far fewer people go for those.

I had an E92 up until a few months ago. I tried to live with it when my son was born last october but it became a hassle getting baby seat in and out. So I "upgraded" so to speak to an E90. Maybe you have a higher tolerance.

I have a 328, and my wife and I are expecting our second. I tried quite a few infant and convertible seats. All of them required the seat to be moved forward to varying degrees.

The two best I could find in terms of fit were the Graco My Size 70, and the Combo Cocorro. They both had smaller footprints, and the latter was specifically made for smaller cars.

I've got an E92 with a Chicco infant rearfacing seat and a Recaro Combo seat in it. Both fit no problem, my seat is all the way back, and the wife's is about an inch forward. Very easy to get the infant seat in too.

I'm 6'1" and have two kids and haven't had any issues in my sedan. Granted, I don't sit as far back as a lot of people, but I've had rear-facing seats, front-facing seats, and booster seats and they've all worked. The rear-facing seats were a bit snug, but fit okay.

Check out the pictures I posted, about halfway through this link:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=828180

It is going to be tight with the rear facing seat; I am fine but I am not tall...

Had two kids while driving an E39. The only issue was front to back clearance when rear facing and you couldn't get the largest seat (I'm not speaking of infant carriers).

Once front facing I have two Britax Frontier XTs in my E90 right now with no issues.

I have an F10 5 series in the family which also has those two Frontiers in it. The 5 is wider but less room front to back in the
Rear seat. Weird, I know, but true.

Never had to put a Stroller in the E90 but think my Pliko P3 would have had trouble fitting in the trunk of the E90. No issue with it in the E39.

So I went and test drove a 2008 528 today. Amazing car. Pretty much fell in love. But indeed not anymore leg room in passenger seat when the child seat was installed in the back. Bummer, I thought I found a good reason to upgrade

How about 7 series? Same thing?

Also is installing the child seat in the middle of back row safe /approved?
That may work as its then not fully blocked by any seat but just 'jammed' in between driver and passenger seat

Thanks

Yes, it is a PITA with baby seat(s) and the 3 series. 5 series is much more doable with your height. GL

I had my E39 when I had one child. The contour of the seats made a single seat in the middle less secure and safe than the next alternate position in the right rear. You have to use common sense when mounting these things.

If I were back in my rear-facing days I believe an E90 would be better than an F10 or E39 5 series (and assume E60 too). This doesn't take into account the trunk space issue though. For whatever reason my E90 has noticeably more fore-aft space than a 5 series and simpler seat contours making working with safety seats easier.

750Li would be perfect no issues with room in them, even the 750i would be good.
This is my old 06 760i and it has plenty of room in the back, the L has about 4 more inches.
