was it a hit a run? If not I would deffinently go somewhere and get an estimate, take it to their insurance, take the money and buy a carbon fiber hood, look at it as an opportunity to upgrade, now or might as well never...

That is 100% identical to a dent I got last year. Found mine that way in a parking lot... I decided to just repair it rather than swap in an aftermarket hood. It cost about 300 bucks.

step 1: file insurance claim for a hit and run.

Step 2: get it appraised at the most expensive shop you can think of.

Step 3: have your insurance write you a check.

Step 4: order a carbon fiber hood with the insurance money.

Step 5: sell your OEM hood for an insignificant amount of money.

Step 6: use that insignificant amount of money to go party with your friends.

i did it and it worked for me

This is what it looked like before:

For $300, I had the shop straighten it out and respray the whole hood. My insurance deductible is $250, so I figured it wasn't worth getting the mark against my record/carfax. CF hoods appear to be more around $800 shipped, so this seemed to be the best course of action for me.

If I could get a CF hood that matches the rest of the car, I might do that. Otherwise, I'd just fix it. What I wouldn't do, because I think it'd look ridiculous with a giant block of grey CF in the middle of the hood on an otherwise all white car, is install a grey CF hood on a car that otherwise has no CR large bits, such as a hood and trunk. Even then, I probably wouldn't do it, in grey at least.

The one exception to my statement above is were the car almost exclusively (or exclusively) a track car where the function should supercede the aesthetic factors.

All the best.
