Another frackin brake warning light...
Is it common for the N55 to have all these brake sensor issues? I mean it's fixed and it's no big deal, but this is the second time this happened within 6 months

With normal driving, I'd say no, it's not so common. But how you drive has a lot to do with it. You should still be in your warranty period, so were I you, and I drove about like most folks do, I'd just head on over to the BMW dealer.

Yeah they say there's issues with the rear brake sensor... I don't drive like a track rat, but I'm not exactly a conservative granny driver.

I think my front/rear pad count is still at 1 and I'm @ 66k miles (I'm a firm believer in braking being a waste of gas ) |

Then how will you know when there is an issue brother?
Anything having to do with issues with the braking and accelerating system concerns the shit out of me, quite frankly. |

Something is shorting the sensor. When the pads is suffienctly worn the sensors would short against the rotor. Since there's 8mm of pad left - it's still thick enough.
Either the sensors are are installed properly or something is shorting it elsewhere - get a new brake pad sensor. |

Mankind went over 100 years without brake pad sensors.
Just change the pads at the regularly scheduled intervals or when they start squealing like crazy. The sensors are flimsy and pointless. |

This is true. However, I am not all all car savvy and would appreciate the convenience of using the warning systems as they were designed on the car - since I paid for them anyway

Ah, the 'ol brake pad sensor issue. Had one come up on me a couple of months ago, stealership said nothing's wrong, had it come up again as soon as I left the damn service station and they finally did some voodoo magic to make it disappear for good. German engineering at its best...

I guess if they're free and covered under warranty and you don't mind going to the dealership to get them changed periodically. Nah, even then I'd still disable the buggers.

All brake Pads have a fail safe which is they make loud grindy noises when they are low. If you happen to ignore that... you can still drive all the way to the point where you have no brakes and the car will just constantly keep the brakes ON 100% of the time so you are basically fighting the brakes to get movement. So for you to be able to say in modern cars 1980+ that you didn't know you needed new brakes is a little far fetched |
