Car ordered...now how long will it really take?
2nd Bimmer ordered! Dealer says 6-8 weeks. I know it depends on parts in/out of stock, time of year, etc. but anyone know about how long it takes to get here? Does it usually take the full 6-8 weeks? I live in Chicago.

Yes, it usually takes 6-8 weeks from the time your car enters production, NOT necessarily the time you placed your order. For example, when I ordered my M3, my dealer didn't have an available production slot for about 3 weeks from the time we finished all the paperwork (all the sooner slots had already been used for other ordered cars), but my car went into production the last week of March and I picked it up at the beginning of May. Production took exactly a week, getting to the shipyard and onto a boat took a few days after that, shipping took about 3-4 weeks, and getting through the VPC and all the way to the dealer was about one more week.
Of course there are plenty of potential sources of delays, and actually I think the factory would be the least likely culprit based on what I've seen in videos about how that operation runs. More often it will be transportation from the factory to the shipyard, loading and then unloading the ship itself, delays getting through the VPC (fairly common), and delays getting from the VPC onto a carrier that will take it to your dealer. Difficult as I know it is, just hang in there and try not to obsess and harass your dealer for constant updates.

Thanks much for the advice! Really appreciate it. My dealer said it will go into production next week (meaning tomorrow the 15th). Hopefully the next 6-8 weeks go by super fast! How do you like your M3??

Ordered mine the last day of January and got it on April 4. It felt like a much longer wait than it was.

I hear they have alarms and they beep now?? That'd be awesome ha. Any really? so about 8.5 weeks dang... I hope mine doesn't take that long...

if you're getting m-sport and looking forward to the performance style diffusor shown in the pictures when building it, be aware mine only came with the regular old diffusor. I was pretty upset about that

mine took the same length of time for the stork to bring puppies--9 wks.
I must say that back then, the BMW salespeople treated you like a rockstar as they prepared and then took your 44k. I hear they're taking 60k nowadays, so they better treat you even better! Free floor mats, both kinds were not even a question, free first oil change at 1,200, etc. etc. |

Wow that long?!?! Oy... I hope I can enjoy some top down weather before its too late! Yeah, I love the beep when locking. Sounds like a dumb thing but man when you don't have it, you really miss it!! Too bad you can't do expedited delivery... guess you gotta order a lambo for that [=

Got mine a few weeks ago, took almost exactly 8 weeks, one day shy.
Been too busy traveling to do any picture taking or much driving, but it was totally worth the wait.

Mine was 6 weeks from the day I ordered it. I'm on the East Coast and was on a convenient boat schedule. If your car is finished with its production, it's about 10 days to cross the Atlantic and hit port, which then you wait about 5 days depending on truck schedule and port installation. Midwest and California will be longer.
