Any good detector recommend
i am in search of a decent detector so i can drive with peace of mind(not trying to drive crazy of any sort like that). I am currently looking at this one from amazon. it seems like this is the best i can find on amazon with good review. Anyone here has any suggestion on detector?

I had the 9500ix red from 2011-2012 then I switch to the V1.
Both are great at what they do, best in their department. You will be downgrading if you go to BEL or Cobra ect. The Arrows are nice for the V1 BUT that is the only thing I have over the passport. The passport has auto mute which is amazing because once the radar goes off, you slow down then you know the cop is there and you dont have to hear the loud noise for 10-15 seconds. The passport lets you adjust the color brightness which is awesome, at night you can see Ka, K, X bands where on the V1 at night you dont see the letters. Passport has the GPS also. The V1 I think is 435 shipped while you can get the 9500ix for about 450. I would pay the extra and get the 9500ix IMHO |

I swear by my v1. Get a mute button off eBay for $10, mount it under the steering wheel, hardwire the radar and it looks clean. I can take pics later.
I've gone 7+ years with no ticket since I got it |

I have 3 radars right now and I like the redline the best. Amazing range, low amount if false warnings
Escort 9500, GPS is a gimmick Too many false readings w/ my V1 however the arrows are very very nice |

guys, thanks for all the replies. I know radar detector is only prohibited in VA and DC. I am in NJ, so should I worry about cops use the radar detector detector to catch me using? I have seen some ppl saying it is legal to have but illegal to use, is doesn't make much sense but just want to confirm as this is a $500 investment.
Thanks. |

I've run my V1 for over 5 years now, no tickets or complaints. Keep in mind in many areas, cops will run Laser - in which case the detector offers very little protection (Though my V1 has saved me once after picking up some bounced LIDAR) - Laser Jammers would be more recommendable in that situation. You can generally tell when a cop runs laser because they'll be outside of the car or have the window open. Radar units are often just hard wired to the car depending on the state.
I have the V1 in the upper right corner of the windshield with the remote display like so. Also, to make up for the issue of ID'ing bands at night time (X, K, KA, Lidar) I re-soldered the LED's in the display so that X is green, K is yellow, and KA and Lidar are red. Here is where the remote display is mounted: No modding to the car required at all, just wrapped the wire under the wheel and through the back of the dash.

Another vote for V1.
I've had an older 9500 and V1. The V1 was always alerting me quicker and with more reliability. False alarms were about the same between the two. The 9500 died a while back and the V1 is still going strong (10+ years). One thing I do notice recently on the V1 is that it is very sensitive to cars with the new tech gimmicks for lane detection, distance cruise, etc. For example, when I am in my car and following my wife in the 335i, the V1 goes off like crazy. All we have is the active blind spot protection. We do not have the lane departure warning system. I'd like to hear if others have the same experience and if the 9500ix reacts the same way as the V1. With more and more cars coming with these tech features, may see more false alarms, which diminishes the usefulness.

Maybe you need is car inspection instead of a detector. Some of the vehicle inspection systems are designed for car inspection and there are also others that can be used to check cars' condition through the handheld VAG diagnostics code scanner. This device lets you read diagnostic trouble codes (DTC), so that you can kwon some condition of your car in advance and preventing accidents before they occurred. And some kind of the mobile vehicles inspection has a small camera. So when the attendants come to repair the car, they can use this device to detect the bottom side and take immediately action, instead of enter to the bottom side of the cars like before. Using the vehicle inspection system bring convenience and saving time for both the car owners and the repair center.
