Performance Value of M-Performance Aero Items?

Any benefits? The only one I could see of value is the front splitter and maybe the rear valence, but I'm not an engineer. The splitter's not adjustable, so I'm definitely on the fence.

The spoiler seems like a joke considering it's attached with tape.

Thoughts?

I'd say 94% cosmetic but 58% of all statistics are made up on the spot.... Seriously though - if you're tracking, there's definitely some benefit but most of us would never notice them

Actually I do track and that's kinda why I ask. I'm no tuning pro and I pretty much go with what I'm given and make the best of it. However, if there's cheap low hanging fruit like say the splitter or diffuser then I'm all in.

Theoretically the splitter should add oversteer. BMW recommends the rear spoiler to go with it. That would add understeer (assuming it had value). Thus the net for the car would still be understeer, which manufacturers want. I'm not saying it's some conspiracy, but the logic seems right. Or maybe it's all just looks

No there's definitely some value. Maybe marginal but it's definitely there. Their engineers really do participate in the development of those parts... You've seen those videos of cars in the wind tunnels right?

Aero is tricky... it really depends on the track and corner speeds. I doubt even experienced track junkies can decipher any difference between an F30 with/without the aero bits on them. Tires will play a much bigger role on these cars than aero. Save your funds for a set of NT01's I say.

Yeah, "Drive to Win" has a section on this. Basically the advice is aero is no substitute for a well tuned setup. It just compliments it and/or can be a detriment as you rightly point out.

I guess the next question would be if it looks like you're faster because you have a hot looking splitter, then are you faster? What's the saying...perception is reality.

Yeah, but it's so nice to go out there and turn laps with a 'bone stock' car as well. I did the whole mod every aspect of the car thing with my E46. At the end of the day my driving is what made the biggest difference. It's especially telling if someone asks me to drive their car. If I can make it dance through the corners then I'm doing something right.

Thanks for everyone's comments. It looks like I'm running out good reasons to buy it. Other than looks. For the money I might do it anyways. I'll just have to ignore all the 's at the events.

I don't think the M-Performance rear spoiler will do much other than, perhaps, reduce some oversteer. Rather than a dinky spoiler, you need a big wing--like near roof height---to get a big handling improvement. However, such a wing should be done in conjunction with other aero like a nice deep front splitter. The front splitter from M-Performance should provide some benefit but I don't think it is low or deep enough to provide a substantial benefit. As was commented before, areo is very tricky. Moreover, I don't think many of us would want to be seen driving a car around town with the type of aero that would really improve track performance. That said, a moderate splitter and rear diffuser might perform pretty well and not look atrocious.
